Default Car will nt start after collision

Hi I have a 2004 Gallardo with E gear and it has had a collision, which has now been repaired.
However the car will not start, unless fuel is sprayed into the airbox venturi.
Once fuel is sprayed in the car starts immediately and runs perfectly on all cylinders.
Once the sprayed fuel is consumed it stops and it will not start again on the key without the addition of more sprayed fuel.
The fuel tanks and filters have been drained and there is the correct fuel pressure up to the fuel rail.
It appears that all electrical systems and engine timing are fine, but the injectors seem to not pulse.
Our assumption is that during the accident the engine management system stopped the injectors from working.
But what caused it, an inertia switch or impact button?
Anybody know?
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Not too sure about this, but I remember in a Lotus Esprit, that I once owned, there was a re-set switch for the electric fuel pumps. I remember reading in the owners manual, that the fuel pumps would shut off in the event of an accident so as not to continue pumping fuel all over the place (as a safety feature). Maybe the fuel pumps used in the Gallardo works similarly ??? And, possibly you need to re-set a fuel pump (or in this case an injector) switch? Sounds like a fail-safe issue.

any pic of the damage? it may help w the diagnosis.

check all fuses, eletrical connections at battery, scan the computer.

Default No photograph

Sorry no I do not have photograph but the damage was to the OSF bumper and wing, also the OS door.
I have had an electrician go through the whole car to check battery and fuses but as yet no diagnostics have been done.
He believed that there was an inertia switch somewhere but was unable to find it.

Can you still hear the fuel pump run when opening the driver's side door?

Hi

Firstly thank you all for the help!!

Yes you can hear a pump run and then later you hear it re-pump to the pressure point.

It is only running for a few seconds then it stops for maybe 3 mninutes, then pumps again then stops again?

I hope this makes sense

Regards

veetwin

The noise you hear when you open the drivers door is the e-gear pump, NOT the fuel pumps.

On top of that, if you are getting fuel pressure at the rail (You checked with a fuel pressure gauge, I assume?), then your issue is not the fuel pumps. Your issue is that the injectors are not firing. If the engine runs when you spray some starting fluid in the intake, then your ECU's are probably ok since they are obviously triggering ignition and timing control as they should be.

Check fuses and relays for the fuel injection system.

Then again, if you aren't REALLY sure if you have fuel pressure, I would check that first...Then I would get a node light, and see if the injectors are trying to pulse.

I thought the fuel pumps all primed when you opened the door. Sorry...

+1 with what Mike said. I'm honestly surprised the ECUs can make any sense of the sprayed in fuel..

You obviously have fuel pressure and ignition. The ECU is giving spark so it must THINK it's injecting fuel.

The ECU doesn't 'know' if there is fuel pressure or not...It gets a signal from the crank/cam trigger and MAP sensor, and sets the timing and spark accordingly. Just like when you run out of gas...It doesn't 'know' you're out of fuel...As long as the engine is turning, and the ignition is on, it will throw sparks hoping the engine will continue to run, even if it is sputtering along until there is no longer enough fuel to propel the car forward.

My guess is that there is no fuel pressure...As others have said, many cars have inertia switches that disable fuel pumps in the event of a collision so that fuel is not pumping and fueling any potential fire after a crash.

Good luck!
