Can we make some kind of comparison?

The Gallardo remains a less expensive and performing alternative to the Murci as the Jalpa was to the Countach and the Urraco (when it first came out) to the Miura.

Unlike the Jalpa and especially the Urraco the Gallardo does have the performance to be a very close competitor of the Murci however it is a totally different animal.

Why do you think Lambo management didn't offer the scissor doors on this model - I think that they went out of their way to make an aftermarket kit practically impossible to adapt by putting the side window in the position that they did (if you don't consider the out and up solution). Differentiation

I believe that the Gallardo in expert hands will out perform a Murci with a standard driver like most of us on any track any day of the week. The Gallardo IS a very fast car. I drove both the Gallardo and the Murci in the same afternoon on the same track.

Would I trade my Countach for a Gallardo? No

To say that the Murcie or the Gallardo are no longer "Italian" is like saying the finest Itilian wine is not really Italian simply because the bottle was imported from Germany. Does it mean the quality is not there? Does it mean the passion of what was has somehow been stolen away and replaced with an imposters vision? NOPE! I drove a Diablo for years before falling in love with the Murcie...now I own a Murcie...I love to drive it, I love to look at it.

Audi owns Lamborghini, big deal. If they have the money, the resources, and the man power to take Lamborghini into the next generation, I say lead the way...afterall, when Chrylser owned them, wasn't bankruptcy on the horizon? Or did we suddenly forget about that one?

I've loved Lamborghini since I was a kid. I loved all the models I was around to see. Criticizing Gallardo owners and dismissing them as non-purists is... just not something I should be seeing on a forum called Lamborghini-Talk, in a community FULL of Murci/Gallardo owners. I live and work in conditions that make it impossible for me to practically own a supposed "real" Lamborghini. I've mentioned in previous posts that I'm not crazy about the design of the Countach. I also mentioned I love the Miura, and with some luck, I will have one in some number of years. But I cannot possibly own one now, unless I were only going to drive it once a month or so.

I agree with every here (and I reiterate myself) that Audi put Lamborghini on the map, and talk of the Germans not knowing what the hell they're doing borders on racism. It's the people that are doing it that matter, not their nationality!

And finally... didn't the original Datsun 240Z look a little like the Miura?

This is a little over the top. Nationality still matters in car design. It's just not a bunch of guys getting together and coming up with something. And Audi certainly didn't put Lamborghini on the map.

And come on with the politically correct racism statement. Is that suppose to freeze any further comments for fear of offending someone? I know it's a popular weapon these days, but I'm not going for it.

All my comments are not aimed at any particular car or owners, just the creeping non Italian influence that is sure to continue and expand. I don't like it most do. There's no right or wrong, it's all opinion.

I agree with Raymond. The Racism remark is absurd and Audi did not put Lamborghini on the map. Most car enthusiasts who know Lamborghini's history know this.
I feel that, historically speaking, there will alway be a dividing line that splits the company. The post Audi company with its Murcielago and Gallardo
and the pre Audi company with all those wonderful car like the Diablo, Countach, etc. We have a choice now to buy into the OLD school and/or the new school. There is plenty of excitment to go around.
