I'm curious to see what they have actually done to raise output to 100bhp/L while meeting emission and reliability requirements. The extra heat generated due to higher combustion temp indicates aggressive ecu mapping which also means higher internal stress. I hope this means they actually did some serious internal work on the engine and not just merely increased capacity by 0.3 L which wouldn't produce so much extra heat. It is easy for the development team to reasonably extract 700hp from the 6.5L capacity on the bench but to do 650hp and meet production car requirements, now that requires effort considering that they have never hit 100bhp/L on any of their production cars before. The Diablo GTR did make 590hp from the 6.0L engine WITH air restrictors on but the car was strictly for track use without regard to emissions and noise requirements. Lamborghini engines have always been 'conservative' on specific output because they set high durability standards. It is still very exciting nonetheless..

Interesting !!

Maybe auto engines should look at jet aircraft turbine materials technology
and techniques.

All in all,
it is an AWESOME car and a wonderful improvement upon the current murcie.
Hopefully that wets your appetites a bit.

it was SIIIIIICK looking.
Jonathan, I've been trying to bite my tongue, but I have to slip a little.
Your post fired me up !

As you know, I was there last summer too. Let me just say.
I don't think I was shown what you saw. What you saw sounded
SOOO AWESOME !

I like what you described better ! What I saw was not so radical. There
were changes, but not radical ones.

Maybe I saw the one before they decided to change it in favor of the
one you saw.

Hopefully we'll know shortly, in a few weeks, when Geneva opens.
Or maybe they'll release it to the enthusiasts before Geneva, like Ferrari
did recently with the 599 GTB. Hope so !

I wish you were coming this weekend to the PDX show with your dad,
so we could exchange notes maybe, using Kevin's Murci as a baseline.
In secret, of coarse !

Regards,

Larry

Second that, Rampante. I thought Lamborghini wasn't going to do a major facelift for the Murcie, but now that they do, I'm anxious about the upcoming facelift for the Gallardo.

scram,

I wouldn't doubt we were looking at the same thing...were you there in spring, or earlier? esp. considering we saw the same gallardo model and such. I guess I may have some people mad at me when the murci does come out, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the changes are no different.

me, a bigger fan currently of gallardos than murcies, and around lambos all the time, thought the changes needed, radical, and enough to make me drool over a murci in a way I hadn't since the first one my dad got.

To others, it may just be a simple facelift and engine revamping, but for anyone that lives and breathes lambos like me, I feel its extremes will be well welcomed.

And anything that bend the car frame b/c of too much torque or melts the rear end is pretty radical in my book!

Man, I wish I could have been down there this weekend, it looked like a lot of fun. I hope to see you before Monterrey, but if not, I will see you then!

Jonathan

p.s. When are you getting that Lambo you know you want??? I'm sure Matt is A-N-X-I-O-U-S! And I know my dad could hook you up with a sweet deal...have you checked his inventory at www.catsexotics.com? Better yet, get ahold of me if you want a good deal on the right car...haha.

Hi Jonathan. Yes, we all missed you and Adam this weekend!
I hope the business meeting went well.

We were in Centro Stile, July 21, 2005, between 6:00-?? pm.
Who knows what time it ended. I'm not sure I've come down yet !
I will never forget it !

And Christina had taken us through the factory starting at around
3pm, earlier the same day! Also unforgettable ! Still haven't come down
from that either !

Don't be worried Jonathan !

You're post generated a lot of interest in the new Murci ! I agree that the
technical changes you described as well as the interior and smaller
but not insignificant exterior changes that we both saw (assuming we saw
the same thing), are indicative of major changes !

Plus when one is a Lambo NUT, like we are, and one is in Centro Stile
viewing a new Lamborghini, one is in a very Lambo-passionate frame of mind!
This is a good thing!

You have conveyed a passionate and excited impression of your first
experience with the new Murcielago ! It is totally legit. !!

I am looking forward to the new Murcielago, and am even more excited
about it after reading your excellent post on it Jonathan !! And I had the
pleasure of seeing it myself last July !

Regards,

Larry
