Post Started with a Clutch and turned into a Project

I bought my car two years back and drove it for about 5000KM (3125Miles) then the clutch went bad

It is a used car and usually in this area the cars abused and history records do not exist for used cars (Cars are sold as seen); I decided to take the car apart and check (Engine , Axle , Transmission, and other parts ) and re-build it again if I have too .

May 10th was the starting point but only now I have decide to share with you my project as it is still going on and no where completion yet

My brother is mechanically inclined so he is doing most of the work and I take care of ordering parts, researching the net, minor modifications /cosmetics, and helping him out disassemble/assembly parts.

This is an in house project with limited resources (tools) we use what we can to do the job but we strive for excellence in our work to our best ability. SO Guys if you have nothing NICE to say then DON’T……….hey Just kidding

Clutch was the problem so we had to take the engine out to examine the damage and fix it. We took three hours or so to get the engine out. I have taken so many pictures to document the project and to use as reference incase we forget which part goes where? As I know parts will be an issue and they tend to take longer than expected. I will be sharing with you some of the pictures.

Getting the gear stick free took sometime then when it was time to take the engine out I was afraid that the chain will not support the heavy engine but thank God it did . I was more relieved to see the engine on the ground in one piece

After removing the gear I was shocked to see the state of the flywheel and the clutch plate. I have already ordered and received a new Clutch plate from Europsapres but after seeing the damage and consulting with other lmabo owners I deiced to go to Clutch Masters. I packaged the items (20KG) and shipped them by DHL to US to be re-done

Nice pics.

I thought that the engine removal would be a lot longer than three hours.

Way to go.

The good news is the bolts on your flywheel didn't get chewed up from an incorrect installation like they did on silvergts1998's car .

The engine cover and spoiler were removed in under 15 mints. My brother took care of all the bolts/screws under the car for engine ,gear ,and drive shafts and i took care of all the fuel lines , water lines , elect lines, and the A/C ....
so it is 2 men x 3 hrs= six man-hour

Yes, thank god they did not

Next was to remove the intake manifold and heads as one day when I was cleaning the spark plugs I found a bit of oil on spark plug 12. I was hoping it will be only a valve seal and not the pistons... I wonder

We removed all the timing chains, gears and chain guides after marking TDC. You can see that there is wearing on the left side chain guide but strongly it is not where the chain sits!! Is this due to heat??

Sadly all the pistons had Clearance issue aprat from one .... It is now a MAJOR job
