Default Should I assume that there's something wrong?

Seems pretty cheap. It looks like a dealer that sells classic and collectible cars. Anyone familiar with this guy?

Those frauds are getting old. They stole that pic from Motor cars International, you can check their inventory.

It goes something like this. "Wire the funds and we'll ship you the car if you don't like it for any reason you can send it back...Honest!"

must be a salvage title..... there is no such thing as a 77 thousand dollar 2001 6.0

has to be salvaged ...or a very good kit.... if there is such a thing

I can see that. It explains the pre-approved buyer restriction. Let's find out...

Oh boy. I'm never going to buy a car over the internet again, and never buy on what someone says or even puts in writing. You can read the link here as to why: teaguemotorsports.com. Too many bad signs about this ad (contact seller before bidding, too low a price). I'd say stay away!

Here's the response I got:

Quote:
Hello there and thanks for your interest

First of all let me introduce myself, so that you know to whom you are talking to. My name is David Hamilton.
As you've probably already seen on my auction the price I'm looking for my 2001 Lamborghini Diablo VT is $77,000.00
Few words about the car: it is in perfect condition, there's not even a scratch nor dents on it. Everything from the motor to the tiers and mirrors is shining and looking brand new. I have a clear title for it , no liens or loans.
I will only conclude the transaction through eBay for our own protection. They act as a neutral third party. I shall explain to you the process, so that you know what you are getting into!
If we decide to proceed with this transaction, i will have to contact eBay and provide them all the necessary information, so they can start the process right away. I will be needing your full name and address for that. You will receive a notification from eBay shortly after that, together with all the instructions to follow and the invoice as well.
Regarding the payment, you will be instructed to deposit the money to an eBay account. They will hold and insure your money until receipt of the car in good condition.
That is how their buyer protection policy is working. As far as the seller concerns, i will be glad to know that eBay has the possession of the money during the delivery period. That is my insurance.
As soon as i will have the confirmation from eBay that the funds have been deposited to their account, i will immediately start the shipping process.
The car will be delivered to your address in no more than 10 working days. You will be given a 15 days inspection period from the day you receive the car at home.
If you decide to hold the car, then you will have to authorize eBay to release the funds to me, and the transaction will be completed. If you will not be satisfied with the car, you will be able to send the car back through the same shipping company, and ask eBay to return the funds to you.
Though i am sure you will love the car and will not want to return it, it is good to know that you do have this second option available.
I want to point out that because i am in the process of moving because of changing my working place, i am after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why i decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.
If you wish to proceed with the purchase, please provide me your full name and address so I can initiate the deal through EBay right away.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm Regards
David Hamilton
didn't know Ebay was in the escrow business. Money back guarantee? Free shipping? I'm on it!

I wonder if he'll ship to my local police department. Let's find out...

Maybe someone will find this info useful. Maybe not.

I responded to the above message with the address of my local police department and a number for a payphone outside of a convenience store (committed to memory since just about every time you buy something the clerk asks for a phone number)

got this:

Quote:
Hi
I am sure you will love the car and don't worry I will take care of the shipping.I will initiate the transaction through ebay and in the next 24 hours they will contact you with transaction details, invoice , payment instructions , buyer's protection policy.
At this point the car is reserved for you . Just wait for eBay instructions
and then:

Quote:
Hi

I've started the transaction.
Let me know when you hear from ebay and keep me updated.

David
finally I got 2 ebay spoof emails that were "invoices" the second asked me to wire money into this account:

Quote:
Please make payment to the following account
Bank Name: RAIFFEISEN BANK
Acct. Owner: VAS LASZLO
Acct. Number: 1207 2545 0022 0917 0030 0000
Bank Code: 1207 2545
IBAN: HU44 1207 2545 0022 0917 0030 0000
Swift Code: UBRTHUHB
Bank Address: AKADEMIA U.6 , BUDAPEST 1054
Bank Country: HUNGARY
The auction lasted about 3 days, then deleted. The user ID, which was most likely hacked, was also deleted. Ebay (the real ebay) sent me a message vaguely referencing me "contacting someone outside of ebay". Ebay sad that that was bad and they're not responsible etc.

How many different ways can you tell a person not to wire money into a stranger's account? Here's another one. Obviously, people are still doing it, though.

This is funny stuff. Even after I told him that the car was under-priced. I don't think they speak english. Hoping for that one jerk, I guess.

I just responded. Let's see what I get next.

I am very interested and want to pay cash, but who is David Hamilton? He says he is the owner of this car.

I used to get guys like this all the time when I was selling parts. I would leave them hanging for months with different excuses why I couldn't "forward their payment to their shipping company" an email here and an email there and eventually I'd tell them that I spent it gambling or on crack, or sent them a check in the mail. Most of the time they stop communication, but sometimes a feisty one would come along with threats and pretend they're the FBI, etc. etc. Good thing I always used a fake address.
