I got tired of the same thing happening and ended up milling a 1/2" thick piece of UHMW to fit the entire length of the front section, it has worked very well.

1/2" thick?! Do you think 1/4" (or even 1/8) would work? How did you attach it? Can you post a few pics? From what I've read, UHMW is more abrasion resistant that carbon steel. Maybe I'll change it to this instead.

I didn't take pics but I can at some point.

I used 1/2" so that I could recess the screw heads a little through the UHMW, so they were not sticking out. I made billet blocks and threaded them, fitting them inside the lip of the bumper and held them in place with thin flat head screws, this way they will stay in place over the factory underside panel holes.

The UHMW front lip is angled so it isn't that noticeable at 1/2" but it has worked well to protect the underside of the nose.
