Default Not So Countach Savvy

Just signed up here as a virgin in the field and looking to purchase a first Countach. I historically have been a Corvette eficianado and on my 5th one which I have had for nearly 10 years. This is a 1965 Tuxedo Black Coupe with KOs and sidepipes with red interior. Gorgeous Car. Turned 40 two years back and on a whim (for me a whim is extensive research over nearly a year) I purchased a red Ferrari 308 GTSI (yeah Magnum variety) which I have driven off and on since then and loved every minute. Car is beautiful and fully restored by a Ferrari mechanic in Ohio and has been more reliable then my 1995 triple black Mercedes 600SL V12 daily driver. Enough background I think you get the picture. Gas mileage is obviously not my forte.

So the stage is set and I always wanted to buy a Countach since I was a kid. Looking to release the Ferrari and the Vette (ouch) for the right car. I have honed in that I want an anniversary model in black or red. Must have the fin and preference is one or two owner with some mileage on it as opposed to a stored vehicle.

I have never driven or been in a Countach yet. I am 6 feet even 190 lbs. From reading other threads I think I am OK there. The Ferrari is tight though I must admit. I pretty much gather the car will be uncomfortable and the clutch takes quite the pressure to engage. I have not seen much quality "product" out there for sale. I was planning to go to the Monterey show to do so active looking but now have a prior commitment. I have been speaking with the folks at Lambo Ohio about the Black on black anniversary for sale there. We have been talking some trades and such. Wondered if any experts in this arena out there can talk to me about this car. It has been for sale for some time and the price is what I believe market to be. I have the carfax and other information. The car apparently sold on ebay in 2004 as well but I do not know for what. Any input pro or con on this particular car would be highly appreciated.

I have personally looked at that car and I am pretty go friends with the people of Lamborghini of Ohio. They are currently looking for a DiabloRoadster for me. I can give you a pretty good history on the car if you would like. PM me and I would be happy to give you all the info. I think I even have some receipts the previous owner faxed over to me when we considered buying the car. We chose an 88.5 instead but this was one of the cars which was on our to buy list.

That is correct. It was my car, had it about a year, then sold it to a board member here that had it about a year alos, he traded it in with a few others for a F-40 about 5 months ago or so..

I can tell you that car is MINT mechanical condition...I have 40K in reciepts..wish I have never sold it to be honest with you, but you know how that goes...tires were new as well

I think you cant go wrong on that car...price is always up to the buyer if its worth it or not.

It is a well sorted car. Contact me if you wish any info, ...

Thanks Roy

OK I did purchase an red Anniversary car in November of last year in North Carolina. Actually drove it home with my 12 year old son to Atlanta and aside from people trying to crash into me while looking at the car no problems. Since then been doing the best I can to figure out all the nuances and whatnot and learn what I can. Have driven the car several times to work (32 miles RT) and some on the weekends in between the few wintery spurts we have gotten in ATL this year. So I have now returned to see if you the experts can help me out with a few questions. I drove the car today and got home in the evening. Had the lights on and about half way home all the illuminated buttons/indicators to include one looking like a door ajar type indicator went from just being illuminated to flashing rapidly. I checked the battery guage and the needle was in the solid white area (whatever that means) but the headlights themselves were not flickering and were strong. No warning lights or other noticeable issues. Car was also running just fine. Any thoughts? Second question. Upon close inspection I see there is a metal mesh grill in front of the front right hand side foglight recesses in the Euro style bumper but only on the right side. Checked the left and could not confirm any place where another might afix to and no obvious missing indicators. Am I missing one and if so where would one acquire such a metal mesh grill?

Thanks for any help. Love the car but still hanging on the the 1965 Vette as well so quite the difference in driving one day to the next.

You are driving a car that is 20 years old. Italian cars have at best very poor ground systems. I hope you like to work on your car, cause you need to.
Starting at the front where the battery is, locate every ground wire you can, they should all be black. Once you find them, remove them and clean where they were afixed. Then reinstall using STAR washers. Do this over the entire car. It will be a Job, but in the end, you will be glad you did.
I have owned 6 of these and still own 3, been building/buying/selling Countach cars for over 23 years. I stock parts and rear tyres for them.
If I can help you can call or write any time.
My email is: JaguarXJ_S@Yahoo.com
Oh the email address, I race a Jaguar in top end events. It is faster than a Murci in the standing mile.
