One good trick, remove the alternator on your own, it's really easy, remove the distributor cap, unscrew the alternator, take it out of the mount, turn it 90 degrees the way the pulley looks at the top. then you can move it to the left where the distributor cap was you can take it out. takes about 10 minutes...
Then bring it to a Bosch dealer and let them overhoul the unit. The alternator we have in our cars is nothing special except the top cover which is specially made to mount it in the car.
The alternator is mainly made of 4 parts:
1. cover plate - specially for the countach
2. winding part - standard
3. diode plate - standard
4. voltage regulator - standard
a good bosch dealer takes it to pieces and replaces what is bad...
