Default My new theory on Countach pricing

In my opinion, the prices of Countachs selling today compared to what they sold for about 5-10 years ago really didn't appreciate as much as you think. Yes, you don't hear of some lucky son of a gun nabbing a good-condition, decent mileage 5000S for under $50k, but that's only because the auction had no reserve, or the seller set the reserve at the book value (only about 1/2 the market value!) They are also not any harder to find as they were back then. According to mobile.de, surfing and auto baron.com, there are over 60 Countachs, non-replicas, known on the market.

It is still more than possible to find a Countach under $70k, and yes, under 60k. The only reason you never see them is because they sell so damn fast! The sellers are usually desprate to get rid of it, or they are luxury dealerships who got one through a trade. Most Countachs under $70k have the Euro specs, and are '82-'86 5000S or QV. They can still have supurb cosmetic and mechanical condition. Most of the time, they have at least 30,000km/18,000 miles.

Here is an '85 going for $65,900:

Don't get me wrong, Countachs are rocketing in value at the moment, it's just that the market will stay numb to the appreciation for a little while. This is similar to how the Ford's Shelbys skyrocketed in the collector's market in the '80s.

Also, prices did go up slightly ofer the past few years, unrelated to inflation.

The reason the 90, 100 even 120k countachs are the only ones you really see is because they take longer to find a willing buyer. They are usually just like new anniversary editions, or heavily desired early models.

But that's just my opinion,

The car you mention is 65,900 but needs lots of work. Paint doesn't look very good and I bet $25,000 worth of engine work.

Roy Cats thinks these cars will go up up up in the next few years.

I'm with Roy on this one.

i agree with Roy
just wait and you'll see countach's value do what miura's did in last years, just a little lower prices for the bigger production numbers (2000 vs 700)
more i bet on the top desirable list will be:
1- LP400 periscopio
2- QV DD
3- LP400S1
