Default Bigger wheels on a countach

Playing around with the idea of having wheels made to duplicate the countach wheel in a 18" rear, and a 17" front. Tires used would be pirelli pzeros 335/30ZR18, and 205/50ZR17. Diameter would increase 1" from stock, so clearances would have to be checked first. I've put together a crappy pic of what it would look like just to get an idea, What do ya think? Remember this is mostly just for fun, but who knows.

If you do it, let me know. I will be interested. Especially when you require two molds for the two sizes and it will cost you 20k each.....

A CNC machine would be cheaper, however I've got connections in the casting ind., so its not out of reach.
Aftermaket wheel would look great, but I think staying with the original theme would be the way to go.

Hi Greg, I've wanted to do the same thing for some time now. A couple of years ago I spoke with a rep from Kinesis Wheels. He said that a one piece casting could be done, but that the cost would run around $100,000. I figured if 10-20 Countach owners got together the development cost could be shared and then we pay for our own set(s). It would be nice to be able to install proper brakes and buy tires in the U.S. whenever you needed them. I also spoke with a guy that reproduced larger "factory looking" wheels for his Pantera (see pics). He had three piece wheels with a CNC machined billet center constructed. He cut the rim in two and had the center welded in between to give it a one piece look. They look great but he said that they were very very heavy.

Hi John,

The pantera wheels were made by Dragway in Australia, nice car.

I wonder how heavy?

Greg

Your right. Lazlo, the owner of the Pantera gave me the link. He said that they cost him about $7,000.00 USD to have made. He did not know the actual weight of each wheel, he just said that they were very heavy.

those rims look awesome on the pantera, would like to see more of those around, they seem quite rare...
