Raymond, I thought it was the same car as Steves. Not to many white Silhouettes.

I know this car and almost placed it for a collector. What is interesting and confusing to me is the suggestion that this is the prototype. When in fact it appears to be the first production car. Significant...yes. How significant will have to be seen. I know the car had the rims redone as well as the engine cover was once black then white, then black. The car is not totally original.
Would be good to have though, but the Alberta guy is asking much more than I could have had it for.

Interestingly on that Car Classic site, he mentions a Lamborghini approved engine upgrade programme. I quote:

"Lamborghini is perfectly aware that the standard production Jalpa suffered from engine failure on too frequent a basis and developed an upgrade program to make their power plants fully reliable, but only a happy few have been able to get it"

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing in the real world? If so, what did it involve?

Forget the nonsense that is written on carclassic, they have no clue about these cars, on the blue jalpa they write that this car has a special oil cooler.
Absolut BS this car has the normal oil cooler in the engine bay every jalpa has after the moved it from under the water radiator to the engine bay.
At the same time the change also the filler.

The dashboard on 40002 is different than the production models dash, the vent levers are moved to the console on the prod models. 40002 also has a Lambo badge on top of the dashboard. Warning lamps were also revised on the production model. Rather than having the canted b above BERTONE on the side badges, 40002 is badged Designo di Bertone on a single badge. Also, and I stand to be corrected, the trunk strut is on the passenger side on 002 while pictures that I have seen of other silhouettes it is on the driver side. , I also noticed that Urracco is written beside the shifter on every other silhouette from 40006 upward.

My Silhouette is right hand drive and the strut is on the drivers side. There is provision for the strut on the left hand side though.
40002 from my observation was different in all the ways you described from the 52 production models. I have never seen a photo of the badge on top of the dashboard and am curious. Do you have a photo?

Rick thanks for posting that picture. I have a feeling that the badge on the dash has been added by somebody over the years.
There are no power mirrors. Original mirrors are Vitaloni Californians. I think somebody has put Vitaloni Tornado's on your car.
It has power windows and the switches are on the floor console either side of the vent levers

Rick,

seems you're the lucky guy who got the ex-swiss 40002 Silhouette.
I'm sad I didn't have the money that time to buy it when it was advertised here...
