Default New to Jalpa's, some questions

Hi all,

I don't know much about Jalpa's, but i've been offered a deal on my car which involves a Jalpa...

It's a German 1986 delivery, stood in a showroom as showpiece for a while, before being picked up by the current owner, and was imported in to Belgium.

The car has about 30.000km, and the only problem the owner can recall is a broken gas cable...

The car is red, with beige leather interior. It looks absolutely perfect, though haven't had a chance to get close to it to see the quality of the paintwork, interior or sit in it...

It has BBS wheels, which look better than the standard wheels, IMHO.

I have some questions:

1. What is something like this worth?
2. I'm interested in seeing Jalpa's with other wheels
3. Can you track it? I know it might be a shame, but I don't like speeding tickets
4. After-market sports exhausts. Does it need one, and who makes them?
5. What is bad about the Jalpa? What kind of service does it need?

Thanks everyone Sorry if some questions have been asked by other newbies

The car is FLA12246 and was very, very long for sale at Auto Kremer in Bonn.
Now they dislocated to dusseldorf.

The belgian owner of this car is on this forum as well but he didn't post for a long time.

Thanks
Any more info about Jalpa's? I've found your site, raymond, looks quite interesting, but all that stuff about changing the ignition system and engine mounts is not quite my cup of tea...

Changing the ignition system is a task of half an hour. The Permatune Unit is a simple plug and play.

The engine mounts are normally changed during an engine out, nobody does this for his own pleasure...

Nobody can tell you this since we cannot see the car in person.
Have a look at http://www.jalpa.ch/Sale/index.html to find out what is asked in Europe.

You can but it's not a real fun, too heavy, lousy brakes, too narrow tires, not enough power.

There is only the Ansa which is already on that car as far as I know, Quicksilver and Larini reproduce this Ansa-Muffler in SS.

Nothing, I have mine since April 2000, drove 30t km and had never a break down, servicing is rather expensive since the car have their age.
Service every 10t km is enough not every 5t like noted in the owners manual.
The most important is that the car is well set up, wrong adjusted carbs and ignition can produce some heavy damages.

Some more questions:

1. What's it like to take out / put back the targa roof? Can a single person do it?

2. What's the sound of the engine like? With normal and with Ansa exhaust?

Thanks again

You will not go wrong with a good Jalpa. They will be escalating in value as those that grew up having posters of these cars on their walls, will be able to afford them.
They also have much more "lamboness" and character than their newer models.
The roof is heavier than a ferrari 308 roof, but I remove mine myself constantly.
These cars appear to be more sought after in Europe than North America.
They seem to be worth 30-40 U.S.

My car has Ansa sport exhaust and great 17 inch wheels, (the originals, I use as a coffee table).
Maintenance is respectable, especially because they have chain driven cams vs belts which have a much longer service ratio.
The car with or without upgraded exhaust sounds fantastic!

The upgrades Raymond has would be good but not necassary for sporadic use.
I have done neither to mine. Raymond makes good recommedations though.

Send some shots if you have some and we may be able to tell you what is right or wrong with the car.

Good luck

Thanks

How do i recognise the Ansa? Raymond thinks it might be on the car already... Is it marked somewhere?

How long does it take to put in the roof?
