Hi Randy,
From my experience on the Countach...Good luck ! ..I mean, be ready to go through hard times But it's worth it
As for the wheels, I like silver ones better..but shouldn't you try to keep the car 'original' when possible ?
Anyway, the Jalpa is a lovely car..Congratulations !

b.) The only issue that I have seen on this car now is that there is a possible exhaust leak. Is this a major issue on the Jalpa?

As soon as I get the car, it will go into Motorcars International here in Springfield, Mo. I am probably going to have the engine tuned up or rebuilt. Next, I am probably going to have the interior completely redone.

Thanks,

Randy
a) Gold weehls could be ordered as an option, my ct has them as well.

b) Exhaust is no problem, you can fix it or replace it with a Quicksilver SS.

I know these cars quite well since I had my Jalpa for 6 years and drove it 30t km.

Default Jalpa

Randy,

I just went thru a mechanical overhal on my Jalpa..........even without a complete rebuilt (didn't need it) I spent approx. 25k. The "small stuff" can kill you in these cars ie brakes, suspensions, exhaust, ect...It's very difficult to find anyone with a mechanical knowledge of these cars. Don't make the mistake to think that the dealers have knowledge of these cars....they probally don't. Due to the limited numbers of these cars produced, very few if any come thru their doors. With that in mind..it's just a car. Good luck with the purchase.

The further away the exhaust leak is from the engine, the easier it is to repair. In any case it is worthwhile to have as many exhaust pieces thermally coated inside and out (rust protection and lowering radiant heat) as you can easily get to. While you have the catalytic converters off also check if the core is partially melted.

In my opinion gold (wheels) and black goes much better together than silver and black.

Thanks Guys...

I really appreciate all your advice. I am getting a steal on the car so I plan on putting a lot into it. It will be a project, for probably years to come...But I am very excited.

Thanks again,

Randy

i love the gold wheels on a black car. i wouldnt "rebuild" or even go into the engine unless it was absolutely needed. get it running and drive it, fix whats needed and drive it, these cars LOVE to be driven , and you would be amazed at what will "fix itself" just by using the car as a car.

100% agree with carreaper, my jalpa was always a driver and caused less problems than any else around.

u guys are right... all lambo's would do well if driven daily.....

i guess its the resale price that keeps the owners from doing this.....

but a driven car is a healthy car

I think the question of driving frequency is interesting. There's a lot to it, for instance, it may be good for the car but more wear and tear is more $$ to maintain, also the impracticality factor to drag a high performance exotic in the grind of daily stop and go traffic turns me off not to mention the danger of damage to the car.

Then there's the enjoyment factor. I would not enjoy my car near as much if I jumped in it every day. Driving it is an occasion I look forward to, not a need to be some place at some time.

And as mentioned, high miles are death to resale value, but I think this is the lamest reason not to drive your car, why save it for the next guy.

I find that once or twice a month maintains my desire for the car and keeps it in good running condition.

I suppose the Gallardo bridges the gap to do this, but it is also not very exotic, so there's a trade off.
