Default Looking To Buy This Jalpa...(Pictures Inclosed)

My dad has a friend who wants to sell my his 1986 Jalpa, I have been doing some research and I have been looking to find out what this car is worth. My dad's friend said that he wants me to have this car. So my question to you is...What do you think that this car is worth, based upon the following second hand information and pictures...

1.) I believe that he is the 2nd or 3rd owner and he has owned the car since 1993. I know this because he trailered the car to our house after he bought it to show me...I was 14 at the time.

2.) The car has 22,000 km on the car and it was built in 02-1986. I don't have a serial number.

3.) The car really has not run since he bought it. After he bought it he had it tuned up (1994) and it cost him about $1,900 for the work. He added the spoiler and just recently added a new paint job for about $6,000. The seats were the original color of the interior (Tan) not the black which is shown in the pictures He had the seats dyed.

4.) About a year ago he got the car running and his son ran it out of gas and now it won't start.

So basically, I am looking to buy a Jalpa which is in fair / good condition - I think, and it does not currently run. My thinking is that the car is worth about $13,000 - $15,000. Can I get some opinions on this?

Thank you,

Randy

The VIN ist stamped on the right suspension dome in the engine bay...

The hide looks like a younger car, the engine looks like it would need some heavy work, first of all I would remove the carbs and have them restored.
The fuel pump gaskets are for sure shot.

How can it run out of gas? Empty tank or is the fuel pump shot?
If you turn the ignition key you can immediately hear the tickering of the fuel pump.

Please check the VIN in the engine bay, it's also written on that aluminium plate you see on the right bottom of the third picture.

Hi Randy

I think you're pitching a bit low...unless you can get a better price than market value because you are friends.

I mean, I would consider buying it myself for parts at US$13,000! The parts appear to be all there - and that's half the battle with a car like this.

I would imagine market value would be from US$20,000 upwards. But for your own protection, suggest you get the chassis number so you can check the car on the registry, and then get someone to inspect it. If it has been run with the air filters removed, as in the photo, there might be bigger problems...

What do other owners think?

Robin, looks like they removed only one of the carb box covers, perhaps because it didn't run anymore...

$15'000 is really low for a complete car, for that money I would buy immediately, more realistic is $20-25k.

the Interior looks nice but the exteriour and especially the engine, YIKES !!! The engine alone may need $20K worth of work??

thats the dirtiest lamborghini ive ever seen! however, a little car wash will take care of that. If the seller lets it go for 15,000, definatly get it.

Default Getting Close...

It has taken longer than I originally expected but I think that this may be in my garage in a few weeks. I have a couple of questions...

a.) On the original Jalpa's did the gold wheels mean anything or was it just an option from Lamborghini? What is everyone's opinion on the gold wheels vs the silver wheels I personally like the silver wheels more I was thinking of having them powder coated.

b.) The only issue that I have seen on this car now is that there is a possible exhaust leak. Is this a major issue on the Jalpa?

As soon as I get the car, it will go into Motorcars International here in Springfield, Mo. I am probably going to have the engine tuned up or rebuilt. Next, I am probably going to have the interior completely redone.

Thanks,

Randy
