Very nice! I still miss my old Jalpa! You are lucky to have a late enough VIN, that you have the access panels behind the passenger seat too! Makes it so easy to change the plugs on that bank! Trust me!! I had an early VIN with no access panels and it was a pain in the rump to change the plugs!! :-)

Thanks guys, no other people in the world could appreciate the resto as much as you here. I have now painted the engine bay. its hard to show the colour in pictures as its a pearl and looks different in a photo to real life. here are a couple of shots. Cheers

Thumbs up

Just an update on what I have done so far as the restoration. Apart from doing the engine gearbox transplant, I have been doing modifications, driving the car for a few weeks and then back to the resto. The back part of the car is fully refurbished now, so now its time to clean up the front section. I have excellent braking now thanks to having an MR2 booster/master cylinder modified to fit the jalpa pedal box. The standard four pot calipers do work really well its the BENDATALIA booster/master that was useless. It got great pedal feel now. Although I took Raymonds advise and used the yellow stuff brake pads on the front, and i couldnt get the rear yellows but managed to get red stuff brake pads.
The pedal springs were old and the clutch one had snaped. i had to get an engineer to get the pedal box apart to fit the new springs that had to be made specially.
I have now officially removed and replaced almost every nut and bolt on the car in the driveline. The car looks amazing in the photos but the underbody was really sad.
I found lots of rust in the front section even in the wheel arches. The car is from England i suppose! I cut it all out and welded new sections in and had all the suspension, struts and everthing that could come off bead blasted. I actually weighed all the tar and stone guard/underbody detener that i removed at almost 10kgs. i have not finished yet but here are some before and after shots. P.S You got to do your brakes. I have heard alot here about the poor braking the japla has got. The difference is amazing. If anyone needs more advice on the braking let me know. Cheers Nik

The rusty wheel arches is a known problem, see jalpa.ch - common problems...
