Default Jalpa questions...

I am considering buying the Jalpa for sale in PA. Does anyone have information on this car?

http://www.postlets.com/ct/4252

What do you guys think? Ever since I can remember I have been wanting a Jalpa. Now that I am out of the military and since I saved money while in Iraq, this may be a possibility. What do you think it would cost to get a 25,000 mile service? Thanks,

Robert

Thanks Ray! I don't think I would want to travel out from CA without having a credible opinion first. I wonder if anyone on the board is near that area or able to check it out. For now, I'll keep working on my other projects because I don't think I could afford $15,000 plus another $10,000 for a decent paint job and other miscellaneous issues, which I am sure it has. I'll keep watching it though.

Update:
And now that I know it probably needs the entire car to be repainted, $10,000 is probably on the low side for a concours level paint job. Matching black is probably one of the hardest colors to work with, not to mention how well it shows imperfections.

Default I can tell you my story.

I bought a Jalpa back in October. I can tell you all about it if you like. Long story short, I expected a few issues, but got several. Most are minor, but seem to be relatively common, and costs add up quick. It is easy to spend several thousand sorting out a "good" one.

Let me know if you want the full story.

i was told by a potential buyer and very close friend here that as of a few weeks ago the car has dropped a valve and the motor is siezed. also what is not show in that picture is that someone started "primering" the front of the car where the paint is faded. i am not too sure if they used the correct primer for a base / clear repaint, and prepped the surface, or if they went to walmart and bought spray can primer. it is very important you know what sort of primer was used, as blending black paint now is going to be impossible, and the whole car will need to be repainted.

i think the guy has reduced the price a bit. but a dropped valve and a seized engine is EXACTLY what i warned him about in my email when i asked about the car. why you would continue to start a Lamborghini engine with a "mystery tap" in the engine is beyond me.

still, it may be a good car to save. i think its USA spec?

Jeff's Jalpa that for sale is a Euro car and a really nice one. i have not seen it on ebay. but maybe he still has it for sale. i would get with him as that car is Euro, black on black, and had a lot of work done to it.

good luck. all of my cars are sold, and i have no clue what i want as of yet. Pantera, Jalpa, Lotus, COUNTACH.... i dont know....

happy hunting.

Michael

Thanks guys for all the information. However, I just purchased a few other projects to turn for some cash. As soon as I get them out of the way, I'll be more interested in spending time looking for a nice example. Where is this Euro car you mentioned that may be for sale?
