Default Jalpa 1987 help needed asap

Hello,

I am new to this forum and hope that someone can help me with the following:

I have found a 1987 Jalpa for sale that I will go and see tomorrow Thursday. The price is $ 25k which seems to be cheap. However it has some cosmetic issues which would be ok. I am more concerned with mechanical issues.

I would very much appreciate if someone could help me with a short checklist to go through while inspecting the car.

Also what should the VIN # read and would it correspond with the engine #. I belive the VIN # is on the r.h. suspension tower. I do not know where the engine # is.

Thanks.

The VIN will depend on if its a USA model or European model. In either case it will start with: ZA9J

Jalpa VIN's will end with 12xxx (last 3 digits are the production number) for example, mine is: 12071 (71st car built).

Engine numbers do not correspond to the VIN, the number is a 3-digit number that is stamped on the engine block.

Also, check out Raymonds site, everything you want to know about a Jalpa. Lamborghini Jalpa Home Page

Default One more question

What are the differences between a US spec and a EURO spec Jalpa?

Default Thanks Mike

On this website Lamborghini Jalpa Registry it looks like engine and vin #'s do match. Did they get that wrong?

Engine # and VIN are separate # on most European cars.

Thanks detour. Does that mean that they are matching on US cars? Are there other differences between US and EURO cars?

No there are not matching # on either US or Euro. The easiest way to tell if it is Euro it will have elongated air filters. The US version has enclosed boxes that encase the carbs.

No, I do not believe so. But then again anything can be argued.

Please visit Raymonds site to get all the specs
