Default Report: Lamborghini's SUV, 2 2 Projects Cancelled

According to our buddy Chris Paukert, formerly of automk, who's now posting for Winding Road, AutoExpress reports Lambo's scuttled plans to build successors to its Espada GT and super-bad LM002 SUV (pictured) of the last millennium. Word had been swirling for years that a project to build a new 2 2 -- an homage to the company's odd Espada of the 1970s -- was on, then off, then on again. Likewise for a new, high performance SUV -- less radical than the shikh-bait LM002 -- based on the VW Touareg / Porsche Cayanne / Audi Q7. Both projects are reportedly off, but there's not word on whether the company will do the right thing and build the Miura concept for production.

Personally, Im glad they canceled plans for a SUV and 2+2. They could completely destroy Lamborghini's reputation for radical-looking mid-engined cars. As for the Miura, yes its nice but where would it go in the lineup? Between the Murci and Gallardo? I hope lamborghini doesn't persue it until its time the replace the Gallardo. And come on, it can never replace the big bad Murcielago.

I really don't understand comments like this. Uh, Ferruccio wanted to build high end GT cars that were also very fast. It was not his original intention to build 2 seat supercars with mid engines. Or, SUV's for that matter. But, cancelling the Espada successor would not "ruin their reputation", for those that really know the brand. How did that go in the remake of "Gone in 60 Seconds"? When discussion the difference between old and new Ferrari's, "You would not be a self indulgent, wiener, sir. You'd be a connesieur." Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the new cars, but I don't like it when people don't at least appreciate the old cars.

I am glad that the company is not going to build an SUV because Lamborghini was the first exotic car company to build a super SUV. Lamborghini is a leader is automotive design, and does not have to follow what other car companies are doing now. Super SUVs have become a fad of some sort.

Also, I do not think that Lamborghini should remake the Muira…. The original was spectacular… A perfect piece of automotive art…. I am sure the remake would sell well, but I just think the car is too iconic and should not be recreated. It would be too much like the Ford GT remake… Cool for Ford, but not needed at Lamborghini. (I do LOVE the Ford GT…).

This is all just my opinion… It is worth what it cost you to read this… lol
