Default Is Lambo For Sale?

IL Insider: VW Insists Lambo Is Not for Sale, But Buyers Are Offering
Date posted: 06-23-2006

SANT' AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy — Last week, Volkswagen denied a report saying the company might sell the Lamborghini and Bugatti brands due to millions in losses supporting the halo divisions.

But at least one prospective buyer has offered $250 million for the rights to Lamborghini, according to a source close to the bidder.

This source told Inside Line the bid was made "several months ago" and that VW has neither accepted nor rejected the offer.

Lambo, which is under the control of VW's Audi group, sells variations of two basic sports-car models, the Gallardo and the Murciélago, with U.S. prices starting at $175,000. The brand sells about 1,600 cars a year worldwide.

It has tentative plans to build a production version of the retro-style Miura concept that made its debut earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show.

What this means to you: Lambo apparently would cost less than the $500 million Chicago Cubs. Think about that for a minute.

Interesting...Audi being a public company has to seriously consider an attractive offer while they are on a roll, but please build that Miura first!

Audi pumped in (according to them) $500 Mill, so it's unlikelely $250M will get it done. But the very interesting part is that offers are coming in & VW/Audi may just capitulate at some point & who are those offering the money???

Does it means the quality and tech will go down the drain?

Bill Gates’ charity foundation. Sorry couldn’t help it.

Along those lines, Audi has just announced that they will produce an R8 (previously known as their “Le Mans Quattro”).

I saw some specs and estimated price elsewhere and that looked extremely attractive, actually undercutting the Gallardo.

Audi also announced they will run a Diesel at LeMans next year, so although they may be taking from Lambo, they have a few smart guys of their own!!!

If you think back the Audi Quatro was so dominant in IMSA it was banned after the second year.

Who would buy Lamborghini...if it was a major auto maker? I would hope...it would be a wealthy enthusiast that has a passion for the autos...not for huge margins and lower quality...
