Default clarifications

Some clarifications:

(1) Lamborghini Canada does not own all three dealerships. They are all independently owned. Lamborghini Montreal is owned by John Scotti and Lamborghini Vancouver is owned by Weissach.

(2) Anyone bringing their Lambo to the border for import is in for a rude awakening. They must conform to Canadian standards aside from daytime running lights -- the bumpers are different for example as are other Federal requirements. A '99 Diablo was recently imported and Federalizion costs exceeded US$35,000. I have tried to get the factory to inform me of the necessary Federalization requirements on both Murcielagos and Gallardos and all that they are willing to state is that the vehicles are different and that US cars do not meet Canadian standards.

(3) This is not only applicable to Lambos or exotics. Mercedes E-Classes for example cannot be imported into Canada for the same reason. This extends to a friend of mine who worked and lived in Seattle for 2 years and when moving back to Canada was unable to import his E-Class.

I know he is correct on the ownership deal.....

BUT, it is INCORRECT that USA cars do not confirm to CANADA standards with the exception of the day time running lights, KM instead of MPH, side markers ...AS A matter of fact Canada REQUIRES 8mph bumper unlike USA 5 mph bumper....ALL LAMBORGHINIS conform to the 8 MPH so as they are a WORLD car. I do not know why LAMBO does not give you a straight answer, as a matter of fact the mear fact that they DO NOT give you a straight answer is evidence enough that they do not want to delute the waters of their CANADIAN IMPORTER......the middle man.....

I do know that "THE IMPORTER" for Canada HAS A STRONG VESTED intrest in the attempt to KEEP ALL cars other than HIS out of the country. ALL Lamborghini dealers in CANADA, even though they are independent MUST BUY their NEW cars from HIM and only HIM, INCLUDING all parts and WARRANTY items..PERIOD, He has a locked up market......no doubt about it.

Say what you want but IT IS STILL a MIDDLE man CHARGE in between...no matter how pretty you paint it......HE would for SURE loose if cars were allowed to come in......

I have spent a lot of money, time and effort researching this and meeting with Canadian Customs and the like. WHAT I reported earlier IS LEGAL and can be done. YES you do have to make the upgrades to the car, WHICH can be done in the 6 months it is sitting here.

You are correct that you CAN NOT come to the USA, Buy a car on Saturday and bring it back MONDAY.no matter what that will not fly. But when you figure in the cost of the CANADIAN car against a USA price, a USA Apartment for 6-7 months, and the cost to make the upgrades.....well you STILL come out ahead......

I will say there is one issue that HAS Not been resolved...becuase I ALSO can not get a straight answer from LAMBORGHINI and OR THE IMPORTER in Canada......that is if they will or will not HONOR the warranty on the "USA" car in Canada........THEY will if you are a USA citizen traveling there and your car breaks.....OR you bring it up as I have with previous permission.....BUT no for sure answer as of this writing on the WARRANTY.....

Hope that HELPS.......and I do feel for the Dealers in Canada that are held a gunpoint by the "IMPORTER"

I can see why the IMPORTER wants to protect his interest, I am not looking to buy new when there is good selection of used south of the border. Why in any event that they after 15 years customs exempt everything anyways, doesn't make any sense. Even with the 6.1% duties and the currant exchange rate, the savings is worth the hassle. I did speak with the gentleman today and he is confident that his Murc will be here within two weeks from Ohio and I did tell him again to make sure he has all his ducks in a row. He said that he will call me when it arrives and I will make the trip down to see it first hand. I will keep you posted. cheers

Dalecorp, you are probably right on the ownership of the dealers. But, you cannot compare the aging Diablo to a brand new Gallardo.
I'm sure there is alot more that needs to be done to the Diablo to federalize it so that it meets Canadian Standards.
As far as I know, the only thing that the Gallardo needs is daytime running lights. You can buy a kit to convert any vehical at Canadian Tire for about 50 bucks. But you probably dont want those parts on a lambo!
As Roy said, the US G-Car is built with the Canadian 8 MPH bumbers, has a third brake light, has the child safty tether mount. Roy says you don't need to change the spedo to Km/h if you are buy a used car, only required on a brand new vehical.
Going by what it says on the riv site, thats pretty much what they require on Ferrari's, so why not the Lambo.
I think the hardest part is not the modifications, its the red tape and the IMPORTER trying there best to keep them out!

You have mail vwdlr.

i looked into getting a g car last year, and one of the guys at lambo toronto tried to sell me a local car saying 'it is up to us to certify a car from the us, and we will never screw our market up'. translation, we will never let anyone screw up our artificially inflated profits. i am in half mind to sue them...
