Is there anyway to adapt the front tow hook to mount a plate if necessary? I have done that with my Porsche and it works beautifully, although I seldom use it. I will try to attach some pics so you know what I am talking about if I can find them.

My father was once faced with the front plate issue while living in Illinois. He had just purchased a Dodge Viper and wasn't too thrilled with the idea of putting holes in the front fascia. If memory serves me correctly, he found some obscure loophole that allowed him to have the car exempted from the law because he was able to show that the plate would partially obstruct the air flow into the engine compartment. This was about 12 years ago, so I would have to ask him about it to be sure.

Would you believe it? I just put my application for a front plate exemption in the mail today? I would think I have a very good chance of getting it as it has been issued to a DeLorean and a Pantera in the past that I have proof of.
I would advise all of you to disect the laws of your state which apply towards front plates. I found a loophole in Washington state's RCW 46.16.240 that states the license plate must be displayed in the horizontal position a minimum of one foot above the ground, and not more than 4 feet above the ground. This is slightly impossable with a Countach. The plate is going to rise above the body by 2 or more inches when mounted according to the law. If it was mounted lower, it will block the air intakes which are ducted to provide brake cooling. That is a safety issue. Here are the loopholes for Washington state: "Each vehicle license number plate shall be placed or hung in a horizontal position at a distance of not less than one foot nor more than four feet from the ground and shall be kept clean so as to be plainly seen and read at all times: PROVIDED, HOWEVER, That in cases where the body construction of the vehicle is such that compliance with this section is impossible, permission to deviate therefrom may be granted by the state patrol." This is the text as written in statute RCW 46.16.240. Since I can't meet the height requirements (as in minimum), body construction does not allow for proper license fitment, and no factory adapters are available which allow for proper mounting of a front plate, that is a basis for an exemption. It will probably be a couple weeks before I hear back from the authorities that have jurisdiction in this. I'll update as it happens. |

sounds like a lot of work for front plates but worth a try i suppose. california has the worst facists and I've been pulled over 6 times and ticketed 3 times before i caved in and put one on. I guess they really want them on for the redlight cameras ![]()
