Euro Motor Sports
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with Euro Motor Sports.
I bought my Ferrari from them. As they did to you, they claimed that my car was perfect.
When I arrived to inspect it (I refused to send them money in advance), it had chipped paint, black tape under the hood consistent with a re-spray, the glove box and radio covers wouldn't stay up, the CD player was broken, the driver's seat was well-worn, and the car was running EXTREMELY hot. Also, I found blown fuses in a pocket behind one seat. Oh yeah, it had a cracked CV boot and all four brake rotors had been "sprayed" with a no-squeak product in some no-ethics-manner of covering up that the car needed brake work (rotors turned down and new pads).
Just as they did to you, they attempted to bump me up on the price...yielding only when I walked.
Just as they did to you, Daniel told me that "all Ferrari's run hot."
I knew better.
In fact, that was the whole thing...they didn't know anything about these cars.
I drove the car around the block, filled up the radiator, added one quart of oil and poof...the car was no longer over-heating. They didn't know the correct oil to add, either. Even though it's listed under the bonnet, they told me to get the wrong brand/type/weight.
The radiator was 3 1/2 quarts low on water/anti-freeze! The radiator cap was almost welded onto the radiator...a clear indication that they didn't know enough to check the coolant level.
Then they FREAKED OUT when I told them that I was driving the car 800 miles back to Alabama. They demanded that I sign a letter stating that the car was "perfect" as delivered. Uh huh.
I asked them if they wanted me to list all of the above on the letter. They were apoplectic.
The car had a good car fax. Mechanically and electrically it was fine. In the end, it was a good deal for me...but only because I knew what I would be getting into.
But it wasn't "perfect" as advertised. Far from it.
Nor did they know anything about the car (as if they had never been around a Ferrari...even though they had another Ferrari for sale at the time). For instance, I asked them to swap the driver and passenger seats. They balked. They claimed that it would take 3 hours.
I knew that it was just 4 allen bolts on each seat, a 15 minute job, but there was no reason to argue with such idiots. I just pulled the seats myself, instead.
Did you ever get to see their little warehouse "shop" operation? Pretty "low rent."
I came away from there with a project car at a project price (I didn't let them bump me), as well as with a clear understanding that they were *not* car enthusiasts. They didn't know or want to know anything about these cars.
Another thing that bothered me about them was that they didn't want me to refer them to my friends. What sort of high-line business would turn down personal referals?!
Of course, the answer is a kind of business that only wants to deal with strangers...and we both know what that means.
