Default E Gear - "How to guide", can happy users weigh in

I am picking up my Gallardo Spyder next week, and have read ever post about the Egear...what an assortment of opinions and ideas.

Instead of debating E or not, what I'd like are some suggestions for using the Egear so that I don't ruin the clutch and I enjoy the car...

Thanks

It's not as bad as people make out IMO. Just don't slip the clutch. On a hill in particular either go or stop.

if your in 5th or 6th gear coming up to a stop sign treat it like a manual and put it in neutral instead of running back through all the gears.

Hello Dubai Guy...Take a look at Dan V's post. Very good input.

Congrats on your new Spider & Happy New Year!

Backing up is jerky, unitll you learn to see where you want to go before you want to go there, and then back up faster than you would in a normal car.
If you got stuck "constantly" in stop and go traffic, I think this would be a lot of wear on the e-clutch, but I will be asking the dealer about this, and of course, I try to avoid traffic jam times anyway. Usulally I succeed at this.

On a twisty road, there would be no comparison--the e-gear would be far superior to the manual.
Regards,
Dan V

Sorry to bring up this old thread, I too am buying a G within the next month or so and would love some help with driving the car properly to ensure a long lasting clutch.

From what I've read so far what we should do is...

- No race style launches
- Shift into neutral when stopping instead of letting it downshift through the gears.
- Try to avoid taking it where you know there will be constant stop and go traffic. (although most places you go will entail some stop and go traffic). I probably wouldn't do this one, I like to drive too much .
- Shift into neutral when at a stop light.
- Don't let it linger in reverse

Is that about right? Any more to add?

Is driving the car in fully auto mode better for the clutch in stop and go traffic instead of using the paddles?
