New has it Keith Martin was escorted from Barrett-Jackson earlier this week by a couple of "goons" after noting the quality of the cars were sub-par, prices were ridiculous and the event was shodily run. He was reporting for both the New York Times and his magazine.

After being escorted out, he was suggesting he'd be back with a general admission ticket!

Default Plymouth

A Plymouth "something" went for 300K. I guess it's that "stylish" graphic on the side that spells Plymouth from one end to the other.

The real irony about the BJ auction is the 60s muscle cars bring these outrageous prices, yet the real gems frequently sell cheap. I do watch it, I'm a car nut. But it kills me to see the few rare 30s-40s-50s British and European cars go across the stage, and they sell for $20K - $60K. THOSE are the REAL collector cars.

How many of these muscle cars will be worth that $200K in 20 years when the boomers die or run out of money? Not likely.....

...these auction prices are cyclical. if you're paying 45k for a custom el camino, then you will be the last person to ever pay that. or 300k for a plymouth. i remember the ferrari 512 bbi was selling around 250k when i was a kid...and in the early 90s recession, it was selling around 50k. whoever is paying absurd prices for these old muscle cars better really love them and keep them forever because they will never see these prices again. the 80s euro sports cars are a great value for now...i'd rather buy something for 40k or 50k that used to retail for 80 or 100k....than buy some muscle car for 300k that used to retail for 8k. absurd....

Default Just had to add my opinion...

B-J is the most over-rated, over-price, auction on the planet....even to the point of selling cars to fit into the TV slots (ie. rolling it off the block to fit TV commercials in!) What a joke the prices these mass produced muscle cars are bringing. Only way to recoupe the buying price is to bring the car back next year to B-J and hope the market and the buyers are even more stupid!

I like american muscle but then I would NEVER drop 'Lamborghini' money down onto a mass produced car that cant do anything but drive in a straight line.

Did you see the 356 Porsche on it the other day? It sold for 90k, great, but the guy who was selling it bought it at BJ last year for 130k! What a bath(add the fees in for the true cost - KY jelly not included)! As long as it's not my money, it's fun to watch.

New Sale record was hit last night....

Carroll Shelby was there with his "Personal" 427 Cobra that he had built back in 1966. Only 2 were made. One was destroyed, this was the only survivor.

The gavel fell at 5 Million Dollars. Wow! I do like the Cobra. All engine and a light body! Woo-Hoo! This was special built for Carroll and was outfitted with a twin supercharged 427 that put out about 860HP.

Don't forget that for your 5 million you obtained a signed guitar from Shelby. That should make the ridiculous price easier to swallow. I wonder if this guy went back to his hotel room and broke out in a cold sweat. For that price, you don't dare take it around the block. Not to mention everyone will think that it is a replicar!
