2004 was the first year for the Gallardo. I believe there's something to
not buying the first model year of a particular model. Undoubtedly the newer ones have whatever glitches and improvements sorted out. If your an average first time buyer, paying extra for upgrades that have nothing to do with reliability is not worth it IMO. In general, the Gallardo is very reliable.
From now on Gallardo's are going to do nothing but fall in price unless Lamborghini slashes production sharply which is a distinct possibility, and could cause prices to spike up. (Oh if only we had a crystal ball

Just buy the newest one you can comfortably afford, while allowing some OUCH! money for nasty surprises. I'd say $5K and don't worry about resale. The amount to allow after that depends on how often you use it and what interest you have in learning and working on the car yourself. Just one of many opinions.
