I thought I'd bring up a very off-Lambo-topic that I enjoy highly--wine.
Living in Southern California affords me MANY luxuries, one of which is that I'm just a quick drive to San Louis Obispo, Sonoma, and Napa. I visit there at least twice a year to tour the vineyards and educate myself on some of the finest wines in the world. I consider myself now a true wine enthusiast (an enthusiast, NOT an expert!), with a growing red collection that's certainly not impressive by any means...but I have some favorite bottles and vintages that I'm well married to. The Pinot Noirs, Syrahs and Cabernets are my favorites. Discovering which wines I like and which ones I don't, as well as learning about the procedure each winery undergoes to produce their wonderful wines, has become another hobby of mine. The people I've met who are also wine enthusiasts have been wonderful. Does anyone else here enjoy wine and would like to discuss it? Last edited by sb22 : 07-16-2008 at 01:00 AM. |

I would consider myself a wine enthusiast. My GF and I live on Long Island which is home to some fun wineries that visit 3-4 times a year. I have small but well selected grouping of wines. I am a huge fan of dry red wines and only recently am I getting in to whites especially Rieslings.

I was born in Bordeaux, where my parents still live, and most of my family lives in the area :Medoc, Saint Estephe, Pauillac, Margaux, Blaye, Fronsac, Sauternes, Pomerol, St Emilion, etc... My favorites !
I quite open to Italian wines (of course), but also to Chilean and Argentinian wines, as well as east white wines as DaLamboMan mentionned. However, no snobism from me and of course no offence to anyone, Us and Australian wines just don't taste like...say..what I'd expect from a wine ..question of taste I guess.Besides, I have no idea where San Louis, Obispo, Sonoma, Napa, Cali is (was it Cali like California ?..then, I know ) ... No one cares if it's Pinot, Cabernet or what, in France, as only the production area means something...only this would tell you how the sun exposure is like, the rain, the water, the soil, and of course the Domaine (or producer)...In fact go ask for a Cabernet Sauvignon, and noone would understand what you're asking for ![]() Anyway, interesting topic ![]()

Nice, it's great to see so many wine fans here. I can't say I'm surprised though, most I've met who enjoy fine automobiles tend to enjoy fine food & wine as well.
Ayanami, I know what you mean about the regions being more important than the wine name. The finest California wines available in the US are generally in the Napa & Sonoma regions, which is just north of San Fransisco. This region tends to produce very delicate pinot noirs and cabernets because of the cooler temperature, proximity to the cool Pacific Ocean breezes and rolling hills. The micro-climates that exist in the Napa Valley are mind boggling for the way weather affects the flavor and taste of wine, just like in France and Italy. A few of the high-end Napa vintners have competed internationally with the best French wines in taste tests and wine magazine reviews, so there are some very fine wines from this area. I have a nice collection of French Bordeaux wines as well, and they are very nice. Some of the Australian wines have taken off here in the US, but I've had a few very poor Australian wines too that have turned me off enough to be cautious. |
