Maybe someone else should start an "ask detailing questions" thread? This one is, well, off track.

Todd,
"you can use a product like Meguiar's Last Touch Spray Detailer which is meant to be dilluted 1:1 for a clay bar lube. If you use it full strength on a wet car it will provide more then adequet lubrication on the paint's surface to prevent most marring."
The product I did pick up from the auto show (Meguiar's booth) is called Ultimate Quik Detailer) I'm assuming this is very similar to the one you suggested, shall I dilute this to a 1.1 ratio for claying?
Thanks you for the informative reply, I appreciate your imput.
Mario

No from what I remember using Todd's beta tested version of uqd I don't think it's a slick enough formula to clay with, unless you troubleshot the idea of diluting it, even then it's a spendy clay lube.

$ 9.00 for 30 ounces Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax

$ 24.00 for two gallons. Meguiar's Final Inspection Gallon

You should probably consider using a more affordable option when it comes to clay lube, diluted shampoo is fine, anything that allows your clay to glide for multiple passes without having to constantly add moisture will do.

LOL I did not see the above post, sorry now I get it, so in essence I can use basic car wash shampoo diluted to say 1:1 to use as a lubricant, instead of the Meguiar's Quik Detailer, and keep the detailer for use in between waxes,is that the idea?

Well I would say the idea is to definitely use specific products for their dedicated treatment. If I were only tending to my own vehicles, I would use a much more affordable lube than what I use on others cars. Not due to effectiveness but basically visual appeal. I would dedicate your UQD to after wash duty.

You don't have to use it every week I don't believe, but if you are going to take the time to wash your car thoroughly I don't see how you could resist not putting the cherry on top.

Shampoos need to be diluted much more than 1:1 for the most part.

Not all of "quick detailers" will provide lubrication that is needed if one does not want to end up with paint marring. UQD is not recommended to use as lubricant for claying, never mind the fact that it is far from economical. Last Touch diluted 1:1 is used by many Meguiar's fans and Meguiar's employees and it is very economical.

Thank you very much Brian for all the help you offered, tell you the truth I can hardly wait for the warmer weather to arrive, I'm dying to get my ride looking good, also missing the track for that matter LOL,I installed a vast new collection of bolt ons that santa got me this past xmas( I'm almost convinced it was my wife dressed as the pudgy guy)I'm hoping I'll be hitting low to mid 11's/125 to 130 mph in my quarter mile if all goes well....
Waxing the car prior will only make it slicker LOL
My new plate this year will read: KLOK-DIZ hehehe!
Thanks again mate
Regards
Mario
