Wow, wow, wow
Wow! I joined here as a pro detailer, to assist and help educate per my experience, with cosmetic issues and was surprised to see the "detailer" in question here also (I have seen him on other forums with the same arrogant attitude!). I was concerned about the attitude of "I've been doing this for two years so I really know what I'm doing" and " ask me anything, I have yet to be stumped". It was sad to see that individual provoke those offering help to those who asked. When I had been detailing for 2, even 5 years, I really didn't know what I was doing and I laugh looking back on those days. I am still learning more every day. I have been detailing cars, out of a love for the business, for nearly 19 years and I still don't know it all and those of you who have been doing it for some time realize that in the real world, well, sometimes we pros do get stumped but that's part of how we then learn a new "trick of the trade".
Those of you that have been providing input have done an outsanding job of assisting those who needed help with their particular issue and through this, we can all learn from each other. Really simple isn't it? As mentioned already in another post, the true professional is constantly learning and constantly searching for just that little something more.......continuously improving our processes to make the results of what we do even better and more enjoyable for both us as detailers and for our clients who are even happier.
Those who are the best at what they do don't have to advertise it, their clients already know it.
For those of you who are vehicle owners, be careful of who works on your vehicle! I have taken over as detailer for vehicles that have been poorly detailed and it frustrates me to see consumers paying good money for very poor workmanship! If you need a detailer perhaps you could ask someone reputable on this or similar site - some people know people in other parts of the country as friends/associates relocate and they can reffer you to someone appropriate. Be careful of Craigslist detailers. Most of the ones I see advertising in my area don't have a clue what they're doing and it's very obvious simply by reading their ad - it makes no sense. Ask questions about what will be done to your vehicle and be specific. The detailer should have an immediate reply and not hesitate to go through the process (in order)with you. Write it down, then get on a site like this one and ask these guys what they think. This is probably the wrong place to say this if you're driving a Lamborghini but you get what you pay for. For example, I am not the cheapest in my area and I make no apologies (or deals!!) for it but that's because I know how to do it right and I WANT to do it right (but that takes more time than the inexperienced/cheapo guys in town) that's my nature but if it takes longer than expected, I don't charge extra - maybe I loose a few dollars but I think it's fair and I have an extremely loyal following who appreciate honesty and fair labor and the results they expect plus some!
As for the photos of the vehicle "detailed" I feel (some of) your pain. Beautiful car and a beautiful color. It's a shame to see workmanship like that that a high-end pro would not have ever left behind. I am glad to see that it was corrected by someone who knows what they're doing! Good job!
OK, to conclude this "book": Hi, I'm new here. I've been detailing cars for 19 years and I don't know it all. Ask me a question. I may not have the answer and you may somewhat stump me but maybe the other knowledgable pros already here will know and be happy to give you the right answer. Enjoy your summer in your shiny cars!!
