Default Ask A Professional Detailer

As a relatively new member of Lamborghini-Talk, I would like to give you a full introduction and brief summary of my qualifications. In short, I have a passion for detailing like others do for fine wine, woodworking, or music. This is what I live and breathe. It stands to reason, then, I might know what I am talking about.

My business, Apollo Detailing, has been around for nearly two full seasons now. For the most part, we concentrate on paint correction. Paint correction, briefly, is the process by which defects, swirls, and scratches are removed from the paint.

This is an example of a panel that has received paint correction. Note the vast difference between the corrected and the uncorrected sides.

Here are a few examples of my work:

Picus & Holden_C04 - Polishing Perfection - Autopia.org

Apollo Detailing: 2007 Porsche Cayman S (35+ Photos) - Autopia.org

2006 Volkswagen GTI (56k = :hairpull) - Autopia.org

Apollo Detailing: Full Correction Imola Red '05 BMW 330ci ZHP - Autopia.org

Apollo Detailing: 14hr Correction! Black 2001 BMW 540i - Autopia.org

I hope to be a helpful contributor to this forum. Now, feel free to ask any question you like. I have yet to be stumped.

SUCCESS is a decision, NOT a dream. You have to name the price you are willing to pay to get it

Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and Gloss is actually designed specifically to NOT remove wax, as all car wash shampoos are.

You can remove a layer of wax with:

Dawn
P21S Total Auto Wash
Prep-Sol (Grease & Wax Remover)
Extra-High Dilution of Car Wash Shampoo
50/50 IPA (rubbing alcohol diluted 1:1 with filtered water)

The car wash shampoo is the least likely of all to remove it.

Hmmmm....I do have one service available worldwide.

Yes, it is sad that some do not take the time to learn how to do a proper detail but I am spreading the good word as fast as I can.

Tyler,

What would you use on new black leather interior to just keep it new looking and conditioned? And how often should you treat it?

Thanks Russ

Russ,

Lexol and Leatherique make very good leather conditioners. You should apply the conditioner to the leather with a soft, quality microfibre towel about every two-three months. They should be thoroughly vacuumed and detailed before conditioning the leather.

I just read a review about CG's Citrus Wash and Clear. It is merely a conventional shampoo, minus the glossy agents in the other version. So, again it won't remove wax normally.

Clean up after polishing...

If the finish is perfectly clean with minimal dust, you can just straight into your finishing steps (i.e. waxing the car).

If the finish has significant dust, it would be a good idea to re-wash the car and thoroughly dispose of the dust (it can get into everything so be thorough).

If you are concerned about filling properties (i.e. the return of defects), you can prep-sol the finish and verify the condition and re-polish areas as necessary.

And congratulations on the new hobby. It's definitely not an easy one but it can be rewarding to look back on a swirl-free finish in the sun and know that it's your work.

Tyler,

Thank you for answering my question. This is all very interesting to me. If I was in California I sure would give you some business.

Aloha Russ
