Default Anyone own a segway?

I just bought one a week ago from a guy off craiglist and I liked it so much I bought another one for my girlfriend. The one I bought was an i180 for $2k, and an i167 for $1600 for her. I would highly recommend you get one if you like having a good time! I even use it to grab groceries from the local grocery store

Never used one, but here's essentially what would be going through my mind if I saw you grabbing groceries no that.

"What an IDIOT. Who buys a Segway?".

(I'm only stating this because no one will want to say what is truely on their mind)

On the other hand - I really want to try one of them.

Can you use them anywhere? Can you really ride that thing into a grocery store?

Segways are actually really fun to ride. They just follow your natural body movements using the gyroscope principle. I was thinking about buying one a few years ago just for the fun of it...decided not to, as walking in the city is better for me.

These are fun - I have a friend who runs a segway rental company, and he has brought segways to several local events and even family functions. I have gotten to ride one several times. Fun like crazy for zipping around your neighborhood for an hour, or maybe for a tour along the waterfront. I would feel weird getting groceries on one, even though one could totally do that. Even a family member who is older and has had a stroke is able to ride one and loves it! I wouldn't care to own one though.

BTW, they even have some now with knobbier tires for rougher use.

They go about 13-15 miles per hour top speed, and the control is very intuitive.

Tourists rent them in Waikiki, but they are not accepted well by locals. People using them can sometimes be quite rude.

This is true of any car, bicycle, shopping cart, or whatever. Do you think it's MORE true with segways? Just wondering.

The guy that designed it fell off of a cliff a few years ago riding one and died. I saw some Police Officers on them in Denver and chuckled a bit. I'm sure they are fun though.

How am I an idiot? I bought a segway for less than half of what they were new, and since I bought it I have used it everyday and it has been very helpful in running my business (ridding it from one warehouse to the other), and having a blast with it this weekend. It is not wasting away in my cloest it is in full use.

And the grocery store enjoys me coming in there, just as they enjoy me parking my exotic cars outside. I have gotten nothing but thumbs up from the employees and customers telling me how cool it is.

And in IL it is considered a consumer product so it can be used anywhere as long as the owners of buisness don't mind.

I welcome anyone from illinois to come trade there lamborghini with my segway for an hour

Hah - I didn't mean it personally. Just in general I see the Segways as a product where I just think "WHY would you buy it?!". More or less because of pictures like these:

I no doubt want to try one and think I'd enjoy one. I just grew up with the mentality that the Segway was very "dorky".
