Default Anyone enjoy fine time pieces/watches?

Anyone into watches? I've recently (last 2 years) begun collecting a few decent time pieces and I'm really enjoying it.

My current collection--

* Tag Heuer Carrera Chrono automatic, black w/red hands, silver bracelet
* Tag Heuer Formula 1 Indy 500 special edition quartz (my beater "daily driver")
* IWC Portuguese "7-day" black face, black leather band auto (special occasion, formal watch)
* Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean automatic w/metal bracelet

Obviously I'm not a high-end collector but I've begun to enjoy the intricacies and quality of nice time pieces.

Anyone else here share this interest?

BTW I'll post some photos of them in a few weeks when I return home from my current biz trip.

I'm not super familiar with German watches beyond Sinn, Schauer and Graf.

Like the finest sports cars that come out of Italy, the finest wrist watches come from Swiss companies, IMO. Also depends upon what style/look/price you seek.

I am absolutely interested in fine timepieces… I have been interested in the ever since I read my first Robb Report magazine when I was like 10 and saw these amazing watches that I have never seen before. I love classic mechanical watches…. My favourite is Breguet.

If you are looking for a nice German watch, check out Glashutte and A. Lange & Sohne…. Very nice.

Also, you can go to watchtime.com and order a catalogue of the new watches out for this year. It's only about $20... I just got mine in and I enjoy reading it.

$400K for some of the high end watches is typical, which blew my mind once I began learning about them. Several companies make limited edition watches in the $200-$700K range. I love watches but could not bring myself to spend that on a watch even if I had Bill Gates type money.

I also thought my IWC Portuguese was expensive until I found many of the other limited edition watches out there. The sky's the limit, like most anything else men get into collecting.

Default A collection of 1: White face Daytona

Watches are a hobby that seems to parallel the love of cars. Each equally hard to explain to someone if they 'dont get it.' I decided to put all my eggs in one basket so to speak.

White Face Stainless Steel Rolex Daytona, with the Rolex movement. I was thrilled when I got it 5 years ago and equally thrilled with it today. I wear it daily. I think its one of the best 'car guy' watches... and one of the most 'timeless'.. Pun intended. Its a great conversation starter with other enthusiasts.

Amen to that part about some people "not getting it."

What a gorgeous Daytona, I especially like the white face vs the black version. Very clean looking & classy, and as you said a 'car guy' kinda watch.

I've yet to own a Rolex but I assume the service periods are similar to IWC and Omega for automatics---if you've had your watch 5 years, how many times have you had it serviced? I typically go 3yrs with my high end watches depending upon how often I wear them. I was told recently that Rolex's maintenance charge just jumped substantially, btw. Well worth it for such a nice time piece though, cheers!
