Default more power than my Lambo!

I just took delivery of another toy, even more powerful than my Diablo !

It's a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, I know its fugly, but what a machine, 521hp!!

I'm turning into something of a petrolhead, my rides now are

91 Diablo
2006HummerH3
2004 Porsche 996 Carrera2 [manual]
2007 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S [tip]

On a serious note, does anyone have an opinion on doing an early oil and filter change on a new engine, from the documentatin that came with the car it doesn't appear necessary.

"does anyone have an opinion on doing an early oil and filter change on a new engine"

Personally I don't believe in the 12,000km oil changes, I still stick to the 5,000km intervals. If you think about it, what is the most important part of the keeping the engine internals from lasting? OIL!

I know when you talk to the dealers, they say it doesn't need it yet, but to me it is cheap insurance. Also oil that sits in the engine does break down over time and gets subjected to moisture.

My personal opinion is to change it every 5,000km or every season, regardless of whether it is synthetic or not.

As for a brand new engine, I'd change it earlier than the 5,000km. This is when the engine is creating the most metal wear as it is breaking in. Lamborghini Vancouver also recommends the first service at 2500kms not the factory recommended 12,000kms.

Again, to me oil is cheap compared to any engine related work that it can prevent.

My 2 cents.

Gratz on the Cayenne!
Might I ask why you chose the Hummer H3 and not the H2?

Thanks for the comments. I think I'm inclined to do earlier, and more frequent changes than Porsche recommend, especially with the engine being turbocharged. Toplesswhitelegal, what you say sounds good advice.

With regard to the Hummer H3 vs H2: the H2 was not an option because of its size and impracticality. Where I live [I'm in Europe] it is not possible to register a car in my jurisdiction which is more than 2 metres wide. Of course the diablo is 2.04 metres wide, and I have to keep the Lambo registered in another jurisdiction, where I can also claim to be 'resident'. Its a hassle, and it ruled out an H2 for me.

I like the H3, the build quality is good, and there has not been a single issue with it in over a year, but the car is more about style than substance. I would sell it tomorrow if my wife would let me.....

If you think about how long you keep a vehicle, for me it's no more than six years. The question then becomes who are you doing early oil service for?
I change it when the factory recommends it. For me, I would be doing the preventative maintenance for the guy that buys the car after I sell it.

Congrats on the Cayenne, it's a fun ride! I know what you mean on the power, I have a 2005 g-wagen that is now making about 100 HP more than my Gallardo; it's up to about 620 ~ 630 HP now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Olz2F-LJyoE

Congrats. Currently Cayenne Turbo S is the most powerful SUV with ML63 coming at 2nd place. Its a beast.
