Default Aston Martin AMV8 vs Porsche 911

Aston Martin claims to have a Porsche beater in their new AMV8. Looks good on paper, but will it really be competition?

I think the Aston is going to be a great car and will really hit the DB9 sales as its well over £20k cheaper. Although the DB is a "4" seater anyone who has seen the car up close knows thats not really the case.

Having said that i ordered the new 997 Turbo a couple of months ago and hope to take delivery in around 15 months time (fingers crossed)

I'm not sure the AMV8 and the 911 are really comparable cars. The 911 is a very well known design and not 'different' in any true sense of the word. However I suspect that it would have the edge on the Aston in terms of performance/handling.

However the Aston will probably be a more pleasurable and involving car to own. Probably a similar distinction between the Gallardo and Ferrari 360 - if you would allow that comparison and ignoring performance for the moment. Most would prefer the Lamborghini for design 'flair' and individuality and some would prefer the 360 because it feels a safer bet to own (proven maybe).

I am an Aston fan (and Vanquish owner) - they're unique and, I think, very stylish - they also sound superb and have 'ample' performance. However it's a completely different car to the Murcielago (same size engine and roughly the same price) - but it's just not possible to compare the two realistically.

I would have the AMV8 over a 911 any day!!

Shahram, the 911 is a classic design shape - I guess they are recycling, however it's a design philosophy that has been deeply profitable. You either love it or hate it - however it's a classic.

The Aston marque has reinvented itself, there will be a few teething problems along the way, however they are, in my opinion, far more rewarding to own and drive.... neil

I have to agree, the 911 model has kept Porsche in business and the new 997 takes them back to the early 90's in terms of styling. I respect a marques such as (dare i say it in such company...Ferrari) in the PAST, for producing models in such limited numbers and with such frequency. But all that didn't stop me wanting the new Turbo as you just know how great a car its going to be. As a daily driver it fits my bill exactly.

I love Aston Martin! I can't wait to see a video of the two. I'd like to see them one on one, definitely. Can I drive?
