Default Overheating

My SV has started running hotter than normal. Runs up to 100 in relatively cool ambient temps. Slow speed at high RPM's really cause it to run away. I've bled the system but noticed that the level in the expansion tank never really drops like it should when the thermostat opens so I'm thinking I have a partialy stuck thermostat. Any other ideas?

Check your fans? Make sure they kick in at low and hi?

Also I had heating issues and I am not into "snake oils" but tried royal purple additive and it really made a difference...drop my temps about 15 degrees and kept the system relatively cool.

How much fluid should be in the expansion tank? I just thad my car "topped off" and there is only about an inch of fluid in the tank as measured from the bottom. I was told that much more than that would just overflow.

When the thermostat opens the level will never drop since hot water takes more volume than cold, important is really if the thermostat opens fully, another thing is a CO-test you should perform to check if you have emissions in the coolant water.

After we rebuilt my calinder heads the car was still running hot > 100degrees C, it turned out that the thermostat was not opening 100%, about 2mm too less. Now she's runing at about 85-90 degreesand goes up to 95-100 when I really push here.

I had the same problem and I found out that I was running on one fan the fuse blown.
But still with both fans on the temp used to go up especially in traffic it used to get very very hot.
I decided to remove thermostat, as Kuwait is hot almost 9 months of the year and that made a big difference. It is now below 100 and it will only reach 100 in heavy traffic

Whoops I didn't edit your message, but yes I can verify, it dosen't take much to overflow 1-2" is all you need.

The "expansion" tank holds the coolant after it gets hot and expands ie the level has to go up when warm - assuming there is no air in the system.

drop a bottle of "water wetter" in there. you'll have to push to get it mid-way on the temp guage!

I tried "water wetter" and "radiator relief" in my car, forget about it, if the car has a problem this cure of symptoms will not really help.

Raymond is absolutely right. If the head gaskits are leaking, blowing air into the cooling system. then nothing will help except repair.
