The jacks are just for support at the moment, when the lift starts the car will be raised with extra jacks, when the gearbox is removed the car is lowered so the engine clears the rear end, then the gearbox is hoisted out.

While waiting for the hoist we decided to carry on with the other tasks. The dashboard needs re leathering as well as the instrument cluster to be renewed due to the old one having suffered in the sun.

The old heater/Aircon fan is comming out and I will see if I can get an upgraded one, the same size but more output. However we did find a piece of very old foam that had been in there since new.

We used nitro thinner, you can also use the cleaner thinner the car painters use to clean the brushes, it works perfect, I cleaned the velocity stacks with this and a paintbrush.

Hi Terry, have a look about and see if there are any cheap ultrasonic cleaning baths for sale (Ebay, etc). I was given one about 3 years ago and it is perfect for doing parts like carbs, etc. It leaves them with a good exterior finish without the elbow work. I put them in the cleaner, switch on and leave them overnight. Works a treat!
