Default LP500S Engine remove

I think Raymond has posted all we need to know about this. As mine comes out over the next period and we work on the engine bay and motor I think I will just post pics with any problems we find.

Slight difference is that we will be splitting the gearbox as the engine is lifted to avoid the need for a high lift gantry crane, this might be of intrest ?

The engine romove will be in about a weeks time or as soon as the crane lift arrives from the supplier.

Wish us luck !!

Default Pictures of Engine removal

Terry, after you have put them up here and everybody has seen them commented on them etc. Could you do a short writeup with a few pictures for http://www.lamboweb.com/Repairs.htm
There already is a detailed account of a Diablo engine removal there.
This way we can keep them available and easy to find for years should others need the info.

Default Countach engine removal

Terry, just a thought. You say you are going to split the gearbox from the engine to not have to use the tall lifting device, OK that's is cool, But I wonder how you plan to reinstall it??? You gonna install the gearbox once you have the engine almost in the car. That ought be a trip. I alway like to see people make lots of extra work for themselves. Since the greabox weighs around 125-150 pounds and the space to move around in is very limited, I want to see you do that by yourself, since there is really only room for one person to work underthere. My advice, and I have only done this 6 times, so my expertise might be very limited here, would be to leave the gearbox and engine in one piece taking out and installing. You will save a lot of time and energy.

Hi Chad, I agree that is the method almost always used but we cannot get a gantry crane, I have biought the highest lift crane we could find with a long reach, however it may not have enough height on it.

My Lambo mech Martin said he has done it this way before so I have to trust him otherwise the car would have to go back to England to be done. I will take the pics as we go along

Raymond I have been quoted 900 British pounds to make the carburetors back to concours condition, do you think that is a far price ( about 1600 Euros inc tax )
