Default Front Shock Seal Mod for Diablo

I know you guys are getting tired of reading these shock stories. But this issue really bothers me! How could such an awesome machine have such a silly problem!?

I spent a week analyzing the internals of my leaking 6.0 front shock. I should mention that upon dissembling the unit, I found a sticker under the spring that said “Platinum Motors 5/11/2004”. This would mean it is the 2nd shock installed in 5 years and about 6000 miles.

After exploring various seal options, I decided that the oil seal currently used is good for long term use with little internal pressure. I decided to use a hydraulic shaft seal that will be good for holding up to 5000 PSI. This seal will not last as long as the original under severe use. But it will be better suited for holding pressure. We shouldn’t be concerned because this car is not an off road buggy, and the present seals don’t last long anyway.

The installation of the new style seal required some machining, but was easy compared to the disassembly. When done, we tested the shock to 2500 PSI.

I would like to give the modification some time before giving too many details. Though I will temporally do this mod for free, for a few Lambo owners belonging to this forum. As long as they keep me informed of the condition of the shock. And I am not held responsible for oil leaks. After all, it leaked before I fixed it, and you need a new one anyway. If this works, I think the mod is worth a few hundred dollars. And my company may consider it.

Next, I want to look at the little motor that adjusts the compression and rebound. It’s an interesting setup they have in there.

Thanks,
Frank
