Default Diablo roadster center brake light removal and respray

OK, this blemish has been on my car ever since I bought and now it's driving me crazy. It's about the size of a dime and this area is fiberglass. It is not damaged, just that the paint won't stick. I can't stand giving my car to a shop, especially since it's so minor and theres no blending to be done, so I'm going to fix it myself. I know how to use a gun, and the basics but need some help with the finner points.

Here's how I've got it figured, what am I missing?

Remove brake light lens, and tape the area.

Sand the area smooth using what grit? Fingernail just hangs on the edge a little. Also ruff the whole piece with rubbing compound or??

Prime
Paint
Clearcoat?

Any advice is appreciated.

Can't you take the whole piece off and just take the part to a paint shop?

Alex

I am with Alex. Can't the whole part go. Seems like it would be much easier, and look better.

I have tried to figure out how to get it out, but no luck. there are no screws to be found, and that sealant around it is hard as a brick. Now if someone can tell me how to get it out, I'd do just that and forget this foolish endeavor.

Thumbs up

Ahh, good news. Jason at Lambostuff told me how to get at it for removal. He is great. Help on a Sunday evening? You can't beat it. I hope everybody will look to Jason for their parts needs!

Raymondo, you need to be carefull when giving them just the component that the color match is correct, I had a lot of problems with my front spoiler getting them to get the color correct. I went through the color matching charts that they had and picked what I thought was closest, which I had to sign off on. When it was fitted to the car is was a different shade, I then had the same shop do it again trying to color match the paint but still not luck. I finally took it to a shop that would agree to doing the color matching and supplied them with the roof panel as well (Jalpa) so they could do the color matching. I am at last happy with the results. I would recommend you take a second component of the same color so they have a reference point. Good luck :-)
Mike

Hmm. I hadn't thought about that. Thanks for the advice Mike. That thing was a pain to get out, just like all work on Lambos.

A good paint and body shop uses a computer to match the paint, kind of like matching paint at home depot, only a lot more sophisticated. They should be able to shoot the exact color on that part no problem.

It is spark blue metallic. I don't anticipate a matching problem. The car is not faded, and has lead a pretty sheltered life. If it is a problem he said he could match it with another part.
