Default Diablo Restoration....

Hi to all at Lamborghini-talk.

I'm new to this having recently bought a 91 Diablo from the middle east which is in need of a bit of TLC.
Gradually getting things sorted... however, although having driven the car prior to purchase , when it arrived in uk was misfiring quite badly. Wasn't too concerned as I wanted to completely renovate the engine bay, renewing as much as possible , including all the ignition side of things ...
I'm now at the stage of trying to get the car running.... Having bought a workshop manual I found out about the On-Off ignition test to check the warning lights ... this is the result .... can anyone tell me if what I'm looking at makes sense ...

ON-OFF three times ..... on 4th ON-OFF both lights come on then ...

Both flash..... Check left 5 times , Check right 11 times ...

Then both go off.....
Followed by Right coming on and staying on.

According to manual , 5 flashes indicate Engine Speed and T.D.C Sensor, and 11 flashes an Air intake sensor ..

I have measured resistance on both and both appea to be in limits. However, that was directly from sensors and not at ECU end .
I live a long way away from my nearest Lambo specialist so would like to try to check everything I can myself . Do any of you know the pin configuration for the ECU plugs ?
If I knew this I could check all is good at ECU end ...

Any help appreciated

Dear Lamborghinisti,

Welcome to the " Dark side of the force "

I would buy an Actron Scanner. I have one and it's invaluable. You plug it in and get more specific code information.

On www.lamboweb.com, you can pull up a full listing of the lambo specific codes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the Actron scanner (or any of the OBD-II scanners for that matter) will work with Diablos prior to model year '94.

91 is an OBII. No scanner unless you buy Lambo's $20K scanner.

Here's a link to my project. My car has 18K miles on it. Almost done.

Condensed version of my project. I will keep all updates on this thread.

Have you reset the computers ?

You can do this by either disconnecting the battery terminals or by connecting together pin numbered 7 9 and 13 in the socket just by the computers behind the passenger seat. [be v. careful]

You could try switching over the air intake sensors and see if the error goes to the other side. I think that there are also two TDC sensors, you could try the same here.

On my 91 diablo, whenever a check engine light is thrown, it does not seem to go away when the problem is corrected. The light will only clear when the computers are reset.

Good luck, and please let us know what happens and what you find out.

Dear Lamborghinisti,

Oooops ! I'm sorry, my bad.

Well, if you buy a 96 + OBDII Diablo, the Actron scanner is um...well, invaluable

Default RE 91 Diablo ......

Hi ,
Thanks to all for your help !

I was going to query the scanner .... I couldn't find anything for pre 96 cars ! As for restting the computers , yes I will try that, then swop over the appropriate sensors .
Quick ques , re pin numbers .... thanks for those , however I can't see any marking on the socket itself to see how they are numbered. Same for the ECU plugs ...... would help for fault finding ...
Anyone help ?

Abunawaff, the car itself originally from Saudi , been in Kuwait for last few years I believe. It was mentioned by Matt Gibbon , mid 2007 .... Orange, front Strosek conversion ....
Car itself drove absolutely fine , Oil pressure and temps good , no noises , nothing undue at all..... body excellent , no damage, dents .... though a few scuffs on front/rear bumpers .... but was absolutely covered in desert !
I'll post pictures soon to see what you all think .
Its a childhood dream for me , and I know its a big project to take on, with no history , but most of the work i can do myself and I''m certainly finding my way around car !

Thanks again

There is a round socket located just by the computers behind the passenger seat.

You need a good light and possibly some magnification, but on mine the holes are numbered. If you connect together pins 7 9 and 13, turn on the ignition without starting the car, turn ignition off again, disconnect the pins - you should have just reset your computers.

The only other way I am aware of to do this is to remove the earth strap from the battery. As this involves removing the rear wheel it is a PIA.

A graphic to what Mike already said. You can also turn the key on and off 50 times. This will reset it as well if your not in any rush. Going by how many times I drove my car last year, this would take about 10 years to accomplish!

I have a 91 that was totally restored. If I can be of any help, just let me know...
