Default Diablo Pod Adjustment

I see people talk about adjusting the guage pod in the earlier Diablos. How do you adjust them?? Also, what is the newest year pod you can put in the early Diablos without changing the whole interior?

To adjust the pod - under the dash to the left of the steering column look for a silver round "button" about 1/4" in dia. You have to push the button upwards and it will release the dash. That button is the head of a little shock that is spring loaded and the dash will go up. If you want to lower the dash, you have to hold the button and press the pod downward, then release the button.

If the button has not been used for a while, it is not uncommon for the button to be frozen in place. On my car I use the back end of a screwdriver handle to get enough force on the button to free the dash.

You can convert to a pre 6.0 dash, you will have to loose on gauge and rewire some instruments to accomodate the new face plate.

I made a new pod from a used one. By cutting off the long "hood" and getting the pod flush with the gauges will give you a lot more visibility. But after a while, I went back to the stock one and keep switching back and forth depending my mood - only takes about 30 minutes to swap.

Another person I know actually elevated his seat rail by 1 inch which allowed him to see completely over the pod. If you're not tall, that may worth considering.

Thanks for the help. I'm not tall, at 5'9", so every bit counts. You modded your pod yourself? What about restitching the leather? Do you have any pic's by chance?

Thnx JAP
The pix above is what my looks like. The shell is fiberglass and easy to cut. I took it to a local shop and they re-did the leather for about $100.

It only takes 30 minutes to swap so I may do it this weekend and also post a pix.

You gain a lot this way. If you sit in the car and look at the hood you will see it sloops upward. By reducing this area on top, you gain 2-3 inches of visibility and can see over no problem.

I no longer use my dash - PM me if you're interested in it... I'll sell it for cost .. just taking up space in my garage.

Is the one you're wanting to sell original or is it already cut down?

fl 355,
Do you still want to sell your modded dash? If so, how much are you wanting for it?

Colin -
Not yet, I just bought a new chopper for Xmas and I've been tweaking it for the last few days.

Based on your other thread, it may be a good idea for you to pull your dash to replace the bulbs. You don't have to pull the pod, just the instrument cluster inside the pod, it's one piece.

If you look at the dash, in each corner you will see a round head screw with two little holes. Go to sears or an auto parts store and get some snap ring pliers. They look like needle nose, except they have tiny pointed ends. Stick it in the holes and simply unscrew the 4 screws.

(Note - do this while sitting in the drivers seat, with the steering column lowered and a towel on top of the steering column.)

After the screw come out, just pull the dash toward you and lay it face down on the towel on the steering column. Reach inside the pod and there are 3 or 4 quick disconnect plastic couplers. They are idiot proof and you can not mix them up later with the wrong ends.

When the cluster is out, you'll see the bulbs are in the bottom right hand corner in the square box full of different idiot lights. They take a Xmas tree type of push in bulb, not the screw in type.
