Default Dead ignition on a 25th

First of all, great site...
I was wondering if I could possible get some of your expert help on a problem I'm having with my 25th Anniv. Countach. I recently recovered from a bad coller bone break that kept me from getting in and out of my car. The car started and ran fine the last time I drove it, but after sitting for about 6 months the car is now completely dead and will not turn over. I removed the battery when I knew it was going to sit for awhile during my recovery, and kept it charged up out side the car. I re-installed the battery, but when i turn the ignition key, absolutely nothing happens. It doesn't click or even try to turn over. Everything else electrical on the car works seems to work OK. Any help on this situation would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Are you sure the battery was kept up? Can you take a voltage reading across it? Should be 12.5-12.8 static.

Thanks for the reply...
I checked the battery and the voltage is fine. I cleaned all the terminals and also checked the cables for any visable problems. I was going to check the connections at the starter, but as I'm sure you know, that isn't as easy as it should be. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

If you don't see any lights coming up on the dashborad the ignition key lock might be stuck.

If you have lights on in position one of the key check the relais-box in the left side in the trunk. The owners manual shows the box.

Hi Raymond, thanks for the reply,
I do have lights on in the dash when the key is in the first position. I checked the relay box in the left rear. I unplugged and re-plugged the connections on the starter relay and checked all the fuses. Everything seems to be OK. Is there a way to check if the starter relay is bad? The nearest Lambo dealer is out of state and is also known for taking people to the cleaners for problems like this.

When the ignition key is in position 1 can you hear the fuel pumps and the high summing of the ignition box?

If not check the small pink wire, this is the signal from the ignition key, if there is not +12V when in position 1 there is a problem with the lock.

If you can hear the fuel pumps and ignition then the solenoid of the starter might be bad, take a hammer and knock on the starter, not unoften the magnet doesn't release the starter pulley.

Hi Raymond, all I can say is that, "you are the man...",
With the key in the first position, I checked for the sound of the fuel pumps and the humming of the ignition box like you recommended. I couldn't really hear anything from the fuel pumps, but the ignition box was humming like a supercharged mosquito. I then tried to locate the starter to give it a rap. Talk about almost impossible to even get a glimpse of the thing... I couldn't jack the car up for more crawl space underneith, because my tool kit was stolen out of the car along with just about everthing else that could be unbolted quickly, and of course, standard floor jacks haven't got a chance to fit anywhere under the car. I finally slid a shop light under the area I thought the starter might be and looked from the top. Low-and-behold there it was, well not really, all I could actually see was a small end of it while looking down between the exhaust. I had just enough room for a small hammer and two fingers to hold on to it with. I awkwardly tapped the end about a half dozen times, go in the car, turned the key, and she started right away. I let it run for a little while, shut it off, and it started back up just fine. Thank you very much for your help... I really appreciate the fact that you were able to save me from the dealership beating I would have become a victim of. Thanks again...

Mark,
always welcome, I have 35t Km experience with the QV and installed my ignition box in about 30 cars.

But since your starter already makes problems, plan to remove it on the next major service, bring it to a Bosch dealer and let it be overhouled. This problem cannot cure itself, you have to replace the solenoid one day but now you know a way to make it work if stuck somewhere.

Removing the starter means you have to remove the headers as well, on a injected car this would also mean to remove the intake on the left side.
This work will cost you more than a new starter but it's the only way to take it out...
