where is the plastic box in the trunk? Mine just goes to the bodywork on the near side or left as one looks at the back of the car? I disconnected the ignition module and the whine is still there. I think it must be coming form the fuel pumps. As I said I am a bit deaf and my directional hearing is very poor! |

If your looking at the rear of the car it is located inside the left side of the rear trunk. It is actually hanging via brackets from the top portion of the quater panel. I just found mine this week. Mine box was located directly next to the power antena for the radio. It is actually metal and slides right out.

I have only the wiring diagram of the 25th and LP400s, not from the QV, but I suppose it's quite similar to the 25th. Coming back to topic: First of all we need to mention that not all QV's have this plastic box in the luggage compartment. Second thing Paul, you disconnected the 2 relays beside the ignition box, so it's quite normal that the whine is still there... You have to disconnect the big black rubber boot under this metal sheet (first picture). Here the pictures Paul mailed.

as usual you are right! I disconected that wire and the high pitched buzzing was absent! there is no other noise and so I suspect the fuel pumps are not working! I know to check I should remove the engine lid and then the air filter top to see if I can see petrol, but may do that tomorrow. The high pitched whine may just be the modules storing power? But I do not remember that noise before but in fainess I usually just got in the car and started it! Where are the realys for the petrol pumps? I checked again and there is definately no plastic box in the rear boot with any relays in it either at the side or under the wing. Any ideas? thanks again Paul Last edited by raymond : 11-13-2007 at 11:09 PM. |

OK, on the pre 1986 I'm not sure where these relays are located, they could be on the fuse board under the glove box or near the fuel pumps.
The fuel pumps are located directly in front of the left rear wheel under an alu cover: ![]() If you are able to follow the wires... they come from the top where the fuel filter is located and pass inside the frame to the tank. ![]() BTW Guys, I'm selling a 25th wiring diagram on ebay.de http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=300170973667

the electricain had fitted an immobiliser as requiered by my insurance company. i think he has on moving or checking hte fuses done something to the fuses 1 and 2. In any event he now has the car going again by putting the wires for both through fuse 1! he says htere is a problem behind fuse 2! he was looking for a wiring diagram for the 86 although I have explained to him many of these cars were build differently as the time passed! We have it running again, but i am still thinking of your ignition upgrade asa good idea! once again any thanks for your kind prompt and accurate advice! do you ever come to Scotland? if so would be nice to see you and buy you dinner as a thank you. Off topic, but I don't like these "immobiliser", becouse you have to drill and do everything non original to the car.
"paulqv" you should get one of Raymonds ignition boxes, it realy makes difference.

Paul,
since the fuses are much under stress by the radiator fans and ignition/fuel pump etc the fuse box and wires cause problems because of insufficient diameter. I had a car electrician rewire the entire box in my car since I had always the problem that voltage dropped under 10V when turning on the lights. It's important that you use 2 relays for the radiator fans and 1 for the ignition/fuel pump. Perhaps he has to replace some wires since they tend to melt with age and corrosion. If you want to buy one of my ignition boxes I can immediately deliver you one, I have always some in stock or can organize within a few days. Finally the most important, your car runs again. ![]()

hi there
firstly, i do not speak a word of finnish, so your english is excellent! I had recieved lots of warnings from people about putting any alarm in the car and passed these to my insurers but they inisted that i put the immobiliser in otherwise they would not insure the car if stolen! having just spent £17000 yes about 24000 euros (new clutch kit £4800, exhuast and manifolds recreation in stainless steel £3600, new tyres £1000; new tacometer, plug lead set, all new seals pipes bushes engine mounts, refurbising the alloys and starter motor and labour and misc materials) on recommising this car, i am am not looking to spend too much more too quickly but do like the idea of the ignition box. the car will proabalby be going off the road from 1st december anyway for the winter. do others do the same? i need to get the wiring issues properly resolved first. deal with one problem at a time, get stability and then move to the next. so ignition module is a definite, only a question of when. As Raymond says at least it is apparently going again, but i have yet to get home and take it out for a drive! heard the engine going when electricain phoned me! Paul |
