Today I got my camera back (you'll see later why...) and now some pictures of yesterday:

Fuel filter in his new position, with the own mount

Gearbox cleaned

And now the engine is moved towards the car

And gone...

2,5 hours later the engine was in the car and fixed

Bottom side of the car is completed, what is left can be seen on the last picture:
- all water pipes
- connect fuel
- connect left oil radiator
- connect throttle wire
- connect heating
- connect low pressure for the brakes
and finally connect the countach.ch-Ignition

Today the car will be finalized and tuned with my Mercury.

Absolutly beautiful pictures!

What an amazing process of removing and replacing a Countach engine. Heck Raymond, you could make your own shop manual for the Countach!

Back alive...

Yesterday morning we connected the engine to the car, installed the refreshed water pipes made some new hoses and and and.

After lunch at 1pm we filled the engine with liquid, 14 liter oil and 18 liter water.

Then we turned the engine only with the starter without ignition and fuel pumps. Then we connected the fuel pumps and checked for leaks in the new lines. Finally we connected also the ignition box.

Tried to start and tick, tick, tick... Damn it we forgot to push the plug wire from the box into the distributor cap

OK, once again, coughing, shaking and it started, but idle was not even, the engine shaked, we turned the distributor to change the timing advance.

Stopped the engine, check all wires, checked the cylinder sequence against the book and with the other red QV which is in the showroom, all is correct.
Then we changed the wires of the magnet pickups in the connector, then on the ignition box, tried again and again, later we changed also the magnetic pickup themselves.

This bloody engine was not running correctly, the left bank was OK the right was totally dead. But why
We had a spark on the right bank but it was not running, we supposed the spark to be at a wrong time.

We changed the new Denso plugs against the old champions, then we changed my new MSD plug wires against the old ones.
We tried and tried and nothing changed...
(On the Ferrari Mondial you cannot use odd plug wires the car won't run anymore)

Then we checked the flow through the carburettor, left bank showed 10, right only 3-5, what the hell is this.

We opened the first carb to check but all OK, then we thought my mechanic could have forgotten to put the O-Ring between the carbs stack and the intake, this we checked by spraying brake cleaner (80% alcohol) onto the carb stack. Still no difference...

Finally I had the idea to check compression, 1st cylinder 13bar, cylinder 12 0 bar... now why?
I had immediately the idea that the camshafts were out of synch. My mechanic denied, he didn't control the marks on the camshaft twice, no 4 times...
Finally we removed the right valve cover, great procedure, a new made engine and now oil pouring down the clean block.

Once the cover was removed we set the engine on TDC and checked the marks, all perfect but wait, what is this? The exhaust camshaft looks completely odd as on the picture in the owners manual page 42, picture 23, it's exactly 180 degrees turned, but the marks are correct!
Only theory was, this camshaft has two marks, we took it out and damn, 2 marks on the exhaust camshaft.
The error of my mechanic, he relied only on the marks and didn't see that there were 2, he turned the engine several times by hand, but since the camshaft was 180 degrees wrong you could not check the problem.
Only checking the timing with a degrees curve on the crankshaft you could have find it out.

1,5 hours later the engine was put together again and all wires checked, fired and immediately run on all 12.

I was in Garage from 8am to 10pm, what a day but the roaring of your engine does compensate all this troubles
