I drove the first 1200 Kilometers, the engine is running to hot, perhaps the thermostat doesn't open fully, then the battery went flat. With both radiator fans on, the ignition, fuel pump I suppose the wire from the alternator is not delivering enough current to the battery which is then sucked by the ventilation of the passenger compartment.

Still some fixes to do... you never get bored owning a countach

No you never get bored with Countach's, that's for sure!

Congrats, it's running again.

Maybe you need to start checking the water temp with an Infra Red Thermometer to see if the actual water temp and the gauge reading are the same.

John,

the temp the gauge is showing is about 3-5 degrees more than I can measure on the T-Tube, perhaps you can remember I have those tube thermometers used for the heating installed on my tubes.

After next weekend we perform a CO-Test on the water expansion bottle, will tighten the head nut (any advise if this should be done in every case?) and the carbs will be tuned correctly. I will order a new thermostat in Italy and I will also install a cooling hose for the alternator which will be feed by the radiator fan.

Raymond, just wondering if the cabin is any cooler since you put alot of heat reflective panels into the engine bay? It should be alot cooler in the cockpit. Sorry to hear about your cooling problems, perhaps a new thermostat will fix that. After all of that work and upgrades, it should be running like a champ with no problems.

Yes, the cabin is cooler, specially the firewal got quite hot when driving longer time, now it remains cool, at the moment the carbs are not 100% correct, at idle sometimes 11 or even 10 cylinders work.
We will fix this next week when the car is in the garage to tighten the head nuts.

One damned thing occurs now, my left radiator is suddenly leaking
But this will be a winter job, I will have redone all the water pipes in aluminium instead of steal, replace the thermostat and have the radiator redone. Since you have to drain coolant for all of these changes it will be done once...

Quite a common problem whenever a water pump is rebuilt or replaced with a new one, the added water pressure from the newer pump increases pressure just enough to stress out hoses/radiators/thermostats to leak/fail. I know that you replaced all of your hoses, so that isn't an issue here, but probably both radiators should be gone thru completely as well as the thermostat being replaced. Usually, most mechanics will call for the thermostat to be replaced at any time the pump is replaced. Don't get frustrated, you almost have it running perfectly, just have to work out some kinks.

My radiator did once leak but this was fixed when I removed the thermostat 2 years ago, since we cleaned the radiator now with cleaning vinaigre it must become leaky again.
I have for sure not more pressure in the system than before when the leaking head gasket blew emissions into the water...

YES. That was the culprit---the exhaust gas leaking via the head gasket. SOAB. Yes, I would definitely be looking at both radiators closely, full pressure checks and resolder were necessary. Nothing major, should not cost that much, but still, you can't afford any pressure leaks as you very well know. I am very glad you replaced all of your hoses due to the head gasket problem. That alone will destroy the integrity of any rubber hose.

The other QV in the garage with the leaking water pump had also a radiator to rebuild, this costed around $750, it has now a totally new core.
The water pump on that car was as bad that it had water in the engine oil...

Of course also the timing advance in the distributor was stuck.

Raymond, am I just lucky or is it that the 2V engines are easier. My cooling is great even at 40 dg Air temp. Besides a couple of anoying oil leaks I have no problems at all.
