Default Any way to shut off A/C in '98 SV?

Any way to not have the car's computer try and regulate the cabin temperature? I can find no way to completely turn off the air / heat.

No, not really. It's always on. You can "mute" it by balancing your temp selection to actual cabin temp - it will go into a "sleep mode". If you don't like the wind from the fan always on, about the only thing to do is close all vents and re-direct air to your feet.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case. Seems a bit odd.

If you want it off badly just remove the A/C fuse

I don't think pulling the fuse will impact performance. When the A/C cycles on and off the ECU adjusts for the extra load of the compressor by advancing the timing slightly, etc. When it cycles off the Ecu adjusts the parameters.

Some guys pull the belt for more power to eliminate the extra load - I think that's going to extremes for maybe 1hp on a 500hp car... lol.

Fuse 15A will shutdown the AC...but the fan will still blow in the cockpit... to kill the fan you have to pull 3 relays(D,E & F)... each fan speed has it's own seperate relay... go figure...

I don't want it off that badly. I was just curious if there was a way to easily turn it off... like any other car. Just seems like a senseless system design to me.

You CAN shut it off by increasing temp, it's the climate control in general you can't shut off. It's either going to heat or cool you. Murcielago dosen't work like that?

The US Federal Gov. passed a REQUIRMENT quite a few years ago (very early 90's don't remember exactly what year) that the Fan Motor MUST BLOW while the key is on to Circulate Air in the Interior to prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisening!! SOOOOOOO....with the Key On, the Fan will not shut off by US Federal Motor Vehicle Mandate!

This does not mean that the AC will always run, but the Fan Blower will ALWAYS Blow on low speed as long as the key is on.
