1983 Countach No Engine Turnover

Hi guys,

I need some of your expert help on a problem I am having with my 1983 Lambo Countach 5000 S. I brought the car home the other day from storage after charging the battery. It started after some prods of the gas pedal (its the carbeurated model) and it made it home just fine. However, once I got home I turned it off for a few seconds to run inside and grab a few things only to return to find the car completely dead and would not turn over. Of course, I first thought the battery just needed recharging, but that was unsuccessful. A totally new battery failed as well. The hazards and dash lights work and the radio, but when u turn the key in the ignition absolutely nothing happens, it does not turn over or even avtivate any of the ancillary or warning lights. I feel like the igition isn't detecting the key at all. Any help on this would be greatly appreeciated, thanks!

Hello Adam,

that's typically the starter, the solenoid is blocked, all the system work but once you turn the key to starting position not happens.

Sometimes it helps if you knock a bit onto the starter, on the LP500s I fear you have to lift the car and go underneath to do so.

Hi Adam,
My 5000S does the same when hot, but only when I try
a restart within 15mins after turning off. It's also very
intermittent. After turning on and off ignition a few times
the fault clears and she starts.

The only thing you can do is overhoul the starter at a Bosch dealer, doesn't cost a fortune, the bigger problem is to get the starter out of the car...

You have to remove the carbs, the headers and the oil dipstick, there is no other way to take it off...
