Default Twin Turbo Gallardo Project (long post)

I need some help from you guys, whoever have a Gallardo, or know about twin Turbo Gallardos or have one, you input would be appreciated

I have done 300ZX, Supras, RX7, 3000GT, Eclipse, and NSX Turbo conversions and upgrades both mines and from friends. Kinda boring already.

I'm trying now to move up to a better level, wich is my real dream cars: Italian Sport Cars.

The Gallardo has been a car that got my attention since it came out. Now I'm thinking seriously on buying a used one, probably the cheapest, and do a Twin Turbo conversion.

I know some people has done it using Kits that are out there that cost a fortune. I think that is waisting money and time.

My idea is as follow:

Buy a cheap Gallardo with good frame and chasis, engine is not really important.

Take appart the engine, give it to my friend to do a full rebuild using his machining that has laser guiding for better presision. I understand the Gallardo engine is "weak" for boosting, so I would have to do lots of cuts, and add sleves for improved resistance. Size should stay the same: 5.0L and compression probably go down to 9.0:1 to allow boost (and even 8.5:1 if needed).

Pistons, Rods, Lifters, Valves, and many other componetns will have to go and be replaced with stronger ones wich I still have to decide where and what to get depending on price and brand.

I'm thinking of using the stock exhaust manifolds (headers) since they accelerate the exhaust gases good enough.

Now comes the question: what turbos? I'm thinking of using twin Garrett GT35R Ball Bearing wich has:

Compressor
-Wheel: 82mm w/ 56 trim
-Housing: .70 ar
-Inlet 4.00"/2.50" outlet

Turbine
-Wheel: 68mm
-Housing: I can choose .63 ar, .82 ar, 1.06 ar
-4 bolt discharge, T3 inlet

I would go with .82 ar for the turbine to match the compressor, or even go higher and use the 1.06, wich should aloud more gases to go by into the housing, maybe I will get a little more lag, but I rather that than spolling up too fast and the loose it on high.

Those turbos are able to produce between 400 and 600 HP each. so having two of them with the right setup it would be able to go around 1000 HP without a problem.

Cams are a big question as I still don't know anything about them. I have to investigate, but I would need something more agressive than stock and see how Lamborghini controls the timing. The best option is to be able to electronically advance both inlet and outlet times to match air flow on high and keep a go low and idle speed.

Tial Wastegates and Blow Off Valves would be the only way to go to be able to stand 1000HP flow. and custom made intercoolers would be also the way to go based on the space available inside the engine bay and the air flow requirements of both turbos ( a twin intercooler setup would be ideal).

At this point, I'm not sure what computer I could use, I would have to find out if is possible to reprogram the stock computer with a new map using boost, or go with an aftermarket computer (like Altronics). This would allow me to do more advace setups, but it would cost more and require more time and more hardware (new harnness and sensors).

I'm also still thinking what would be best, the manual transmission, or the e-gear. I'm not sure if the e-gear can stand 1000HP. at least, the computer would have to be upgraded. The AWD system is another question... I don't know if it will stand it. this would be part of the transmission anyways (the transfer case).

Exhaust would probably be something aftermarket too depending on flow and available space.

If anybody has any input on anything I have mentioned, or something I might (and probably did) have missed, please post it. I think this project can be lots of fun, but also headaches... but this is what I like to do and what I do all the time anyways.

I'm now entering new territory, and hope you guys can help me out with good ideas and suggestions.

Sorry for the long and technical post, I tried to keep it simple but went to the point on what I want to use and what I know and don't know.

Thank you!!

Dan

New wrinkle he mounted new clutch to flywheel no problem...then
he attempted toinstall tranny....clutch spines wouldn't mesh. So original factory clutch(which they had when they designed new clutch) and
new clutch went back to Tildon Friday
they will have Tuesday. Then it might be a 1 day fix or a 3week new hub manufacture. And these guys are supposed to be the BEST!
and the saga continues......

Sounds like a rookie mistake...... yet we all make them..... no worries..... frustration certainly but it will be fine.
