Default Replacing Standard Gallardo Radio

Hi everyone,

I seem to have a problem with my Gallardo/04 radio. Although the car is off it was detected that the radio sucks enegry from the battery. This is why the battery goes empty after leaving the car 2 days without driving.

The garage told me that it could be a simple cable problem or the whole cd-radio could be defect. Now I am thinking of replacing the cd-radio with a NON-OEM version.

Can anyone recommend the best "normal" cd-radio kit and alternativly the best navigation kit for a Gallardo which would also fit into the slot?

Thanks a lot ...

Chris

hi monahan,

thanks for the info. i am trying to find this eclipse navigation system here in europe but they only seem to have the newer version which seems bigger then the old one. Have u personally made any good experiences with other systems, which other GOOD ones would you recommend? Also which is the slot I can use for the gallardo, i heard there are many different types like SD, DD etc. Are the connection adaptors always the same?

regards,
Chris

Chris I got mine off eBay. I have not looked recently but they are common there for less than about $1000. In this day and age most of these systems are about the same. You get what you pay for. I liked the Ellipse because it has an add-on Eclipse backup camera and you can plug in a Sirius satellite radio. Not sure what the situation in EU with satellite radio is. All these units come in two height sizes 1 "Din" or 2 "DIN". This is standard across them all. If you pull out the Lamborghini (Audi) radio any 2 DIN height Nav system will fit. The only variable is the depth and there is plenty of room for all in the Gallardo.
As I mention in the article the only "catch" is supporting the unit on its sides. Most car audio shops have "adaptors" to accommodate different NAV/radios/cars. Also look on the web at places like http://www.installer.com/kits/# I made my own – this I am sure is not for everybody. You can also go with 1 DIN height units and put in a CD holder “pocket”. With these units the display pops out and folds up. The Alpine units in my opinion are really good in this group.
I used a non hard disk NAV unit because my experience with HD drives in cars is the vibrations eventually get to them. However they tend to have fewer features and are a little slower.
Yes the connectors are always the same. You will be looking for an Audi SymphonyII adaptor. See the above web site.

hi monahan,

thanks a lot for the "installer" website. things are getting a bit clearer now. So theoretically I could use any of the Audi Sets to mount the Eclipse system, is there any colour code I should use for black interior? Also I cannot see a 2 DIN frame though just 1 DIN frames for audi. In your Installation description you mentioned an aluminium frame which that you did by yourself. Is this something I could also buy somewhere?

all the best,
Chris

I think you will have to look on the web (many locations) or drop by a audio car shop. These things are inexpensive. I had to take 3 trys to get the right setup for a corvette I have and wanted to put in an Alpine NAV system. The frame I made was simple to make, strong etc. -- but crude. Fortunatly it is all unseen behind the dash.

There are many different nav systems each offering a different set of benefits. The next step is a good subwoofer enclosure. Currently, I am designing a fiberglass enclosure for four JL Audio 6.5 inch subwoofers for my 05 Gallardo. I am an authorized dealer for most of the brands and will gladly assist anyone in making the most informed decision. Feel free to call 813-887-4629 with any help you need.

Look at the Kenwood DNX-7100, it uses Garmin GPS. Its one of the best ones out there... if not the best.

The best money can buy is Alpine NVEN872A navigation with Alpine IVAW205 double din in dash screen. There are many other alternatives from Eclipse and Pioneer that we also recommend. Each has different key features and we can gladly assist in making the best choice.

I personally have the Alpine package in my 05 Gallardo. The Alpine is more expensive but the details provided by the Alpine are second to none.
