A few weeks back I left my G in the Raised position (about 3 days). I had noticed an oil leak red color, about 150cc and thick almost like transmission oil. The leak was located near the passenger front tire; however, I cannot remember if it leaked onto the wheel itself (brake fluid?). I haven't a clue if my theory is correct and was wondering if anyone else may have encountered this situation.
And no leaks since, always parked in the down position. -Paul |

While you should not, I believe, leave the car raised under full pressure for an extended period, it should not leak. You probably compromised a seal-o-ring and based on where the lift system is, including the junction box with oil lines you have a potential safety issue if you oil a front tire... get it checked ASAP.

The red fluid is indeed an ATF-like fluid used in the front lifting system. Lamborghini does not advise leaving the vehicles front end raised up for extended periods of time as this feature is for temporary use only. The systems do differ from the diablo in that the diablo and murcielago use special shocks with hydraulic lifting capabilities built inside them where the gallardo and SL use hydraulic spring perches and conventional threaded body shock absorbers.

Thanks guys you were absolutely correct. I sent the car to Lambo of Silcon Valley they found that there was a break in one of the seals. They replaced the shock under warranty. In the end we were not able to conclude that the break was secondary to lift position; however, they also recommended to drop the car after clearing an obstacle.
Incidentally, the clutch wear is minimal -egear 2700miles- (.36 or something apparently .5 is bad?) Although, I could smell it when loading it onto the flatbed ![]() |

Lamborghini states that the maximum clutch wear on an egear clutch is 5.6mm. This number represents the difference[in millimeters] between the clutch thickness when new and the clutch thickness measured at present time. When the clutch approaches 5.00mm it will begin to slip on occasion. Any more than this you will definately know...
Premature clutch wear on the early Gallardo's is due to the compound used by the factory vs. tall gearing. Lamborghini has since redesigned the clutch using different material on the friction discs and changed the gear ratio as well as the egear map to eliminate this problem. Be advised to send an early Gallardo to a dealer for a Prepurchase Inspection and get the E-gear Snapshot to inspect for clutch wear before buying! |
