I am looking to buy either a Gallardo. I plan to use as a daily driver but less than 5K a year. What type of maintanance is needed, such as major service, cost of repairs, common problems. Whats considered high miles? What should I beware of? I really appreciate anyones help as this will be my first Lamborghini (I've waited a long time). Thank you

The insurance is not much concern as I have a Viper ACR edition, Porshe 911 Turbo, and two MV Agusta SPR motorcycles. I decided to sell the two cars and just have one. To be honest with you the motorcycles are more to insure than the two cars. They are limited edition (Italian of course). Anyway, my company is only 1 miles from my house and I work 24-7 so driving is limited. This is the reason I want a beautiful car so I can cruiz the Las Vegas strip on weekend. Just want to know what I am about to get myself into. I dont mind shelling out cash for repairs but having the car in the shop regularly is my main concern. We do not have a dealership in the area, only in California.

I agree with mhh, the Gallardo has generally proven to be pretty much fault free and the car does not require a high level of constant maintenace or service. Service costs do not seem high for a car of this calibre.
There have been some issues and adverse publicity regarding the e-gear, but these seem to have been pretty much sorted out in later versions of software. Even so, the e-gear can be a bit "clunky" in stop-start city traffic, and standing starts on steep hills can require some special "e-gear" driving techniques, but it really excells and excites once you get going. On the other hand, the manual versions have had some clutch issues, but new clutch upgrades seem to have sorted these problems also, and the pedal "box" is a bit cramped. I think this is the main decision for any prospective Gallardo buyer. E-gear or manual. Both have their good points and not-so-good points, and this topic certainly always seems to attract a fair bit of emotion and division - and I'm not going there! As an owner myself, the car has proven it's reliability to me, and I have absolutely no concerns that the car is "going to have to be in the shop regularly" due to problems. Hasn't happened. |

i believe there were some issues with water getting into parts of the engine during a wash or rain on early models, but those have been largely resovled (new coil covers). i've had a minor thing here and there (grease on the rollers that raise and lower the windows, squeaking brakes--common on most cars, etc.), but the car has really been sensational. i've been using it as a daily driver and have no issues with it. mine is a manual, and prefer that to e-gear since i live on a hill and i've read that getting an e-gear car up tricky hills (i have to nurse it over the first incline) is not fun.

I have an 05 model and they recalled the service schedule booklet and replaced it shortly after I took delivery.
No more need for a 1500 mile service on the new cars! First service is now c. 7500. Andy |

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge as it has helped me make my final decision....and the winner is 2004 Gallardo. It is being shipped from Houston. Orange (blue/orange interior) and transparent engine bonnet. I am very excited. I also contacted my insurance company and was quoted only $1600 year. Less than the Viper. Kind of odd!!! Now that I have read your replies I have decided to use the car everyday as I am no longer worried about the mileage.
Anyway thank you again for your help.BTW: Where is the best place to buy center caps?? I ordered new rims and need new center caps. I would use the ones off the OEM rim however I plan to sell them. Any suggestions? Last edited by clear : 01-04-2005 at 08:20 PM. |

Congratulations! You'll have a blast. I left from a 355 spider without any regrets. Also have same color as yours with the black interior. It's a great daily driver. Too bad another snowstorm is on our way but I got to put in another 100 miles on mine this New Years Day. Next project is the Tubi.

Vinrey,
I see that you're in Michigan. Unfortunately I am as well. Very cold right now. I see that you are interested in the Tubi for the Gallardo. Just in case you want a second option, my company sells the Larini Gallardo Sport System. If you have any interest, let me know. I'd be happy to meet with you and show you the product. Happy New Year. Jason DexM LLC www.dexmllc.com |
